Here's a quick video i threw together last week before a training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-AnINuqj9Q I didn't take any of the video, but my camera was used. I show up in a few parts, mainly 2nd on the hose-line in the beginning of the video going up the stairs. Footage was taken from an extrication training, a house burn training, and 1 actual barn fire we got called too. Other firefighters like Jay and Don, give me some helpful criticism Hope you enjoy :D
My son's putting his FD stickers on his truck as I type (he's a "cadet" fireman). He's taken so many classes, now, I can't keep up with him (I think he has 17 certifications). I did see the video. Pretty cool.
I never knew your son was a FF Jeff...is he an EMT as well? I havnt done much yet, 36 hour fire, HazMat awareness, EMT-B, Radio Communications...im doing my Ice rescue is Feb.
Hair raising stuff your doing there Caleb, you got my respect bud!! My dad Is a now a volunteer FF and absolutely loves It. He told me the adrenaline rush Is nuts!! He's also on the Rescue squad too now and some of the car accidents he's been to are really bad. He does this In a small town area (1500 people live In this town) so chances of him knowing someone Involved In an accident or fire are pretty good. That part he don't like In the least.
He's not an EMT, yet. He's taken the class and passed it. In NC, you have to be 18yrs old to be "certified". He won't be 18, until April. If he wants to do this for a living.....he'll certainly have a good resume'. Keep up the good work, Caleb.
That is is Jeff. My department covers 26.4 sq miles and has 2,100 people living in it. Im probably related to 400 of them
Tell your son i said good luck and that if he sticks to it, he will love it. Have your son talk to Jay (cfdjay), that man knows his stuff and is living the dream. Weve become good buds through that and some local connections as well as these hunting forums.
My dad is the Chief of the Fire Dept. in my home town (75,00+) and he always said his worst fear was that he would one day be called out to a wreck and it would be a member of his family. He has been a fireman for 30+ years, and has yet to have that call. He only 5 years left until he retires. I hope he never has that call.
I hope he doesn't either. Besides the fact that i had family in the fire service (Both grandpas, a grandma, lots of uncles), one of the main reasons i got into the fire service was because of my best friend Scott who passed away in an automobile accident. He was also going to be a firefighter as well. I cant stand working a normal job anyways :D
My dad has been trying to get me to join the fire dept. back home my entire life, especially now that I live 2 hours away, since he wants me to move back home. While I admit it would be more exciting than my current job, it would be too much of a significant pay cut for me to join. But I would love to work a fireman's schedule.
It does make for alot of free time that can be spent hunting. Usually 24 on 48 off for 10 days a month.
