Anyone bowhunt fields in the MORNING ? How ? I was under the assumption that deer are IN THE FIELDS before first light. I've recently seen shows and videos of guys going to fields for A.M. hunts. Do they know that deer are not in THAT particular field but will feed through it ? Do they just slip in quietly ? I've always hunted in the timber, on trails leading back to bedding areas or the actual bedding areas, in the morning. Am I missing a good hunt by NOT sitting a field in the morning ? BTW. I'm talking about crop fields and destination feed fields, not overgrown CRP thats used as bedding or transition. Thanks.
It seems to depend on the location & type of terrain you hunt. I hunt riverbottoms with thick timber with a few open fields 7 the deer don't seem to be out in those fields during shooting hours until the rut post rut. IMHO.
I never really took notice or put much emphasis on learning which fields the deer frequent at which times of the evening. I guess I should have. We hung a ladder stand on a field edge a few years ago. I hunted it a few times in the evening, but its a small field and from turkey hunting and hunting in the woods, I know most of the deer are in the larger field in the morning and work back along/through this field. Honestly, I never thought to sit that stand in the morning, until now. Might try it in one morning this week.
I try to avoid fields in the am unless the trip to my stand is not far. I have spooked alot of deer in the am hunts ... have also seen alot? One thing I have been doing the last couple of years to try to stop spooking is walking about 10-12 rows within the standing corn ... works real good IMO. It's kinda loud but they can't see ya.
