A Great Lesson on Socialism. An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second Test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because the harder to succeed the greater the reward but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try so no one will succeed.
Well.. social aspects and the whole needing to eat thing are a LITTLE different than test scores. Although I got the point of what the professor was getting at. But.. I'll speak my words.. than go in peace. No government that we have in this world is correct. They ALL have their flaws.. and of course they always will since people make up the governing bodies and people are filled with all of the sins.. you know.. those little sins like lust.. greed.. vanity.. ETC. I'm in no means speaking up for socialism.. or speaking down on democracy.. but don't you think its barbaric that the human being.. earth's GREAT predator and knowledge seeker still can't figure out something just a little better than the last govt. body that society tried. I mean.. democracy was thought up hundreds of years ago.. and yet it remains the supreme (dare I say) model of govt. for the world. Why? Isn't it time to revive it already. Re-think it? Go "Jeffersonian" on it.. so to speak. After all.. the "good book" was written thousands of years ago.. and it plain as day tells each how to live. But no one still has written it better? I know.. I know.. it's late. But it always seemed kinda silly to me.
The problem with this is, the US was never meant to be a true democracy in the first place....we WERE a Republic, and the forefathers set it up that way.. A democracy is when everyone gets together they ask a question, and whatever side has more hands raised wins. Democracy is when YOU vote on issues, we vote for elected officials to then vote for us, ahem, a republic. Electoral College and Congress are both perfect examples of how we were never intended to be a true democracy. Our gov't was fine, until like GMMAT the gimme programs came along. laissez faire is a thing of the past, the government now has a major role in all aspects of life, and it comes from our sense of entitlement over things that aren't ours, both domestically and foreign. Socialism is flawed in that is supresses hard work. Why the hell would I work my ass off if at the end of the day, the guy next to me who twiddled his thumbs all day came out with the EXACT same food allotment. It doesn't work. It is meant for equality, but in reality it just suppresses people into an equal state of poverty.
Not defending socialism by any means, but wouldn't you say our forefathers were progressive thinkers?
Because..... American's are greedy, wasteful, arrogant, lazy, and selfish. It's our nature. Always has, and always will be!
Yea, perfect example was the comunes in china, when you take the reward out of work, nobody wants to do it.
Exactly. "Democracy is the absolute worst form of government on earth ... except all the rest." Winston Churchill.
