You can shave your armpits with it and it doesn't hurt - Ha! =>actually I know mine are really sharp when I can cut a piece off a sheet(1 single and thin) of newspaper and it doesn't tear(perfectly clean cut) anywhere along the length of the blade/cutting edge - this while holding it up, not cutting against another surface. Even better if you can do it with tissue paper.
When you talk one of your hunting buddies into gutting your deer with it. Oh wait, that would be the owner thats sharp. I guess its when it will shave hair without sawing at it.
It cuts my Dads thumb pad off in the kitchen while he is cleaning it! We found it on the ground and got it sewn back on lol
When I can cut my sisters hair with it. JK. Actually when it can slice an index card clean through with no tear.
It's sharp when I can shoot an arrow at it and it splits the arrow clean in half......that would be one hell of a shot!
Finch, I have the Piranta Torch and I love this knife. It is small, compact, and incredibly light. I can carry the knife with extra blades and that weighs less than my Buck knife's sheath alone. The Havalon blades are sharp, I mean REALLY sharp. It's the only knife I have used that I was actually kind of scared of. The blades aren't incredibly strong, but thry aren't meant for trying to hack through bone. They are perfect for gutting a deer, skinning, and cutting up meat. I find myself using the knife all of the time while cooking as well as it is perfect for trimming fat off pork ribs that I put on the smoker or trimming the extra fat off a porterhouse that I'm about to grill. Replacing the blades is easy and spare blades are individually wrapped in foil so they are easy to pack. Overall I love the knife and can't see myself using any other knife for hunting purposes. It isn't a knife that will do everything, but it is perfect for what it was designed for.
When I pinch it in a vice and drop an apple from 18"-24" above it and it slices the apple clean in half. Yep, That will do.
This has my attention. I suck.... and I mean suck bad at sharpening knives. I sharpened my hunting knife last night and it barely cuts hair on my arms. I have one of these and it works OK for kitchen knives but not good enough for me on hunting knives.
Thanks! I first learned about these knives watching some of Steven Rinella's (Meateater guy) videos...he seems to really like them. I see that the Torch has thicker blades than the regular Piranta. Still think I might just go with that one. They both have rave reviews. Do you have to use pliers to change the blades? I read that some ppl have to.
