    Here's my answer.

I probably wouldn't have the coherence to grasp the situation that quickly and it would walk own the hill with its lower intestines hanging out.

Yes, the next day when we would be looking for that gut shot elk after it ran away and left no blood trail, I would end it the first chance I got. So why not save ourselves and the elk some pain and end it a day earlier.

Probobly the same here , but given the chance i would have to say he'd have another arrow soaring towards him. No great answer why it just feels like that would be the right thing to do.

I wouldn't even have my bow with arrow nocked and ready in the first place....so impossible.

But to not read into it for you Dubbs, No would be my simple answer.

I'd have to take the shot. Just can't stand to see the animal suffer. Bad shots happen, but if there's a way to speed up the process, then I'm doing whatever I can.

Yeh, I can't give a simple answer either Dub... If I was calling and I wasn't there to kill an elk, then My answer would probably be no, I would not shoot. Now I'll explain why...

I would be more focused on getting my buddy set up for a follow up shot, Then again it depends on how far "behind" him I am... IDK the right thing to do would be send an arrow regardless, but I honestly see me, for some reason focused on getting him(buddy) in line for another shot... My mind would be in that train of thought, HIS elk HIS hunt, get him in place for another shot...

For those who voted to end it's suffering....what if the shot was just a hair back...lets say it looked to be in the far back lungs or probably more of the liver area....and the elk is walking/trotting off.

Why not stick the arrow in it in this case as well?

Why not when your buddy double lungs the animal?

I realize these are stretches, just curious where you guys would draw the line.

I'm right there with GMMAT on that one.. I read the question and answered as it was asked. Didn't read into it, just read the question and answered truthfully. Well, mostly. I probably wouldn't have an arrow nocked, or be able to fast enough not to scare the elk off, but I'm a rookie. Got lotsa learnin' to do with the bow. But if I was ready, darn right I'm shootin'

No elk tag in my pocket? I'd tell my buddy he better get off his arse and finish the job. No reason he couldnt if hes right there close and the bull is stopped. Have him slide over and get another shot. Not to mention I wouldnt have an arrow knocked while I am calling in a bull for friend when I dont have an elk tag. I mean wtf? Let him finish what he started. Hopefully he can make a better shot the second chance or back out and hope someone has good tracking skills in the morning...hope the wolves dont beat ya too him.

I would shoot it just because of the fact that the elk would probably clot up and stop bleeding, and never be found. A gut shot is still a fatal shot though, as infection builds and it would suffer a painful drawn out death. If the elk is going to die anyways, you might as well put another shot in it to kill it and increase your chances of finding it.

My mom called me at 4am, she was hysterical. My stepdad had collapsed and was not breathing. She had performed CPR on him and the paramedics had just arrived and immediately put him in the ambulance to transport him to the hospital. She told me to meet her there. She lived about 25 miles away.

I got pulled over by a cop as I drove 48 mph in a 35mph zone. (it was a frickin' country road in Barrington hills and it was 4am!) I got a ticket and the guy was a total azz. I didn't make excuses, I only asked that he hurry with the ticket so I could be on my way.

Anyhow, I might have justified the speeding in my mind but the law is the law and I can't get away with anything.

I'm not shooting something if I don't have a tag for it.

If your good at tracking wounded whitetails... elk are not hard to track whatsoever, they leave tracks that make a whitetail's look ghostly. Gut shot elk will lay down failry quick if not pushed.

I love it... People feel like they have to justify their answer at which point they "read into it"... Which was specifically asked NOT to do. :D

Personally, I couldn't care less what your vote is... I just wanted to see how many people could give a "yes" or "no" answer.

I think Germ and Bowhuntingfool are the only ones that pass. :D

We will never get past 5 pages unless we read into it. What fun is 5 pages of yes and no answers?
