I had a great hunt last night. I was sitting in what is not typically a great bow hunting stand but it ended up paying off. I was on the edge of a clover field where it butted up to a cut over. 4 does came out of the far edge of the cut over and filtered their way down to a drainage around 60-70 yards away. Then a couple of fawns and another large doe followed suit. After about 2 minutes, there he stands. He starts trailing that last doe and followed her path right into the drainage and out of my sight. I was kicking myself in the tail for not bringing my 7 mag. Then after about 10-15 minutes a doe jets out of that same drainage being followed by this fella. She stops, turns to give him a quick flirtacious glance and then heads right toward me. When she gets down wind of me, she stopped and looked right at me. I thought it was over but she just stood there at about 23-25 yards. He got up there about 30 seconds later and stopped about 10 yards past her. This was all I needed. She turned her head back at him and I went ahead and drew with him looking in my direction and he never even noticed. He took another step and she started walking away from me almost back toward him. He turned and just as he did, I let the rage fly. He didn't even make it 30 yards and keeled over. Keep in mind that this is a Georgia buck and he's no giant but I'm mighty proud of him. He grossed 125 6/8 and weighed 200 pounds on the hoof. He wasn't very tall but had good mass and was 18 inches wide. Most importantly, it was a great hunt and I got to experience the closest thing to a heart attack I've had in a few seasons.

I forgot to mention that when I was getting down from the stand I just so happened to look over at the clear cut to see another brute running off into the thick stuff. He was a bit bigger than this one but we have a one buck rule on our property. Maybe someone else will get a crack at him.
