These two bucks were just killed a few days ago in Northern Orange County. I wish some people( not everybody) around where I live in SE NC could get it in there head that we can have big deer and in order to we have to let the young bucks walk. I understand that any size buck can be a trophy to certain people.I just hate to hear people that are always complaining about not killing big deer but yet everything that has antlers gets shot at. Their excuse most of the time is "Well if I don't somebody else will!" Well that is just a chance you have to take. There is one thing for sure, if you do shoot them then they definitely ain't getting bigger. It is a simple concept: Pass on small bucks, take out cull bucks, and shoot your does. Anyway. Congrats to them on two awesome whitetails. Hopefully the management practices of especially the midwest are trickling down. It is just going to take some time to get the majority on board. At least around here anyway.

The two thing I hate to hear the most out of a hunter's mouth is " If it's brown it's down" or " It's practice for when the big boy steps out!) Both of those are fine to a certain extent but when you are shooting everything thing that comes out then it is not. I typically shoot a lot of does with my bow because we have an abundance of them. And yes it is good practice. That is not why I shoot them though. I shoot them for management purposes as well as meat in the freezer. When I hear people bragging about shooting 10-15 deer a day while running dogs, it makes me mad as fire because the majority are yearling does and immature bucks. Anyway, just needed to vent a little.

That happens all the time around here when rifle season comes in. It's pure laziness.

I might be moving to the Winston Salem area close to one of my daughters when the houseing market picks back up. How hard is it to get access in Orange Co?

Awesome bucks!!! It has always been preached that there are no big bucks in North Carolina in this forum. Heck, god's gift to NC bowhunting himself says he kills the biggest bucks in his area which are around 100" and he is only two counties west!!! Looks like Captain Silvertip has some catching up to do!!!

Thanks for giving me a new outlook on the true potential of NC deer!!!

I have never tried to gain access to Orange County but I'm sure there is a farm out there somewhere that someone doesn't hunt. As far as big bucks in NC, you can count on any county around the central and north central part of the state to produce trophy bucks. Such as Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Person, Granville,Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Wake, Chatham, Wake...... that is the majority of them. Orange is and ideal county b/c it is surrounded by big buck producing counties. I mostly hunt in Duplin and occasionally in Onslow.

    No problem!!

This is just one story of many. There have been some great deer killed in NC over the years. Granted there are no a lot of 200" deer walking around or hitting the ground but there is potential.

100% accurate. NC has big bucks. I don't see them in MY woods. But, we have them in our state. A 100" buck is a good buck in my woods. I've avg'd a 100" buck for the last 4 seasons. FAR....lol (nice try, biggun'!)....from God's gift to NC bowhunting. But, none of the people I hunt with (where I hunt) have done the same.

    Easy, there, Capt. Twinkie......
