With gun season in full swing, it gives me a chance to hit the rivers again for a few weeks. We have been swinging streamers and the fishing has been decent with at least one hookup each time out and a handful of grabs. Still more battles lost than won, but that is not uncommon with a fall Michigan steelhead. I've been working on a new streamer pattern that has been producing pretty well, which is always fun. Here's a few pics from the last week. Not the best shots due to typical fall weather, rainy and lowlight, but I thought I would share.
Great photo's.... my buddy is headed up towards Lake Erie to do some steelhead fishing this weekend.... sucks that I have to work. Hopefully sometime within the next week and a half I can head up there and get into some fish.
Very cool pics. With meat in the freezer I'm headed for a couple days of steelhead fishing this weekend with my brother and a couple of his Marine buddies. They've been killing them on the Salmon River lately and will for the next couple months. Calling for rain snow mix... just like always. High temps expected to be 39 on Saturday.
I'm totally jealous of you Matt. Like for sure. Great fish! I'm going to be taking up fly-fishing this spring and am probably going to be asking you LOTS of questions via pm. Fell in LOVE with it in Colorado this past October.. and I wanna do it more.
Its not uncommon to see darker fish this time of year around here. Some of these steelhead have been around since late September/early October. They will start to color up regardless of water temp. It has more to do with how long they are in the river. We have hooked some chromers, but they kicked our butts. I'm all ears, duke.
Yeah i know how that works, what i meant was we just didnt have much rain, let alone cold rain to get em up early here in NE ohio. we are seeing alot of chrome fish. There are some dark ones, but the amount of Ohio silver is insane
I gotcha. We haven't seen a big push of new fish since late October which was the last time we received any significant amount of rain. There are some trickling in. I'd say its about 70/30 with old/new fish. Our water temps are right around 40 and many of the fish are settling into winter lies.
This great pictures, thank you for sharing them. I will return to post the picture on this forum and you'll find them great.
Nice, very nice. I miss steelhead fishing since I left Washington. I used to fish a lot there and just have not taken to it here. Seeing these, maybe I need to get the gear out.
We were doing the same thing this past weekend. Water was low, rainy, cold, windy, weather sucked and fishing was slow. Our best was this 32 incher my brother caught. But as they say... a bad day of fishing is better than..............
