Yet another buckless pull. I took the advice of some of our forum members and tried to follow the deer trails to see if I came across a food source where I could catch some buck movement. Well within 60 yards or so I was on the next property (the property I hunt is very narrow). So I guess I will have to be patient and let the bucks come to me, rather me going to the bucks. I know some of you guys enjoy the black squirrel pics Flying squirrel mid flight Finally got a daylight pic of this guy Is it just me or is this raccoon extremely fat?
Just leave it where its at for now, eventually the bucks will find it. When the season gets closer, are you going to bait this spot any (Is it even legal too there?)?...just asking because mineral licks get pretty cold come September/October (at least here).
Yeah I can throw out 2 gallons of bait at a time when the season comes around. For now I was thinking about getting some Tinks power scrape to try and lure in some bucks because I have heard such great things about it. Do you think it will do me any good or would I just be wasting money?
I know the feeling!!! All I've got on cams this year since May is yearling bucks!! Last year I had three shooters, I shot a 170" and the other two were in the 150's range and I got both of them on trailcams in late December and no sign of them this year. I've even put corn out at a few locations and still no shooters.......
Ive had mixed results with Power Scrape. I have had mature bucks check it, but usually only once in the middle of the night while cruising trails looking for does during ore-rut. I know boss man JZ has some good luck with it. Last year i put out corn in a pile for a solid 3 months. I had ALOT of bucks visit, and a few during shooting hours. Just was a big hassle. Im going to look into an inventory feeder for this fall. Im also going to put out a few synthetic scrapes in late August, and refresh them through the rut. They will be placed close to doe bedding areas. Is i were you, and wanting to try Power Scrape, id find a nice trail intersection to set it up in. You already have a nice mineral lick that deer are using, down mess with it much besides refreshing the minerals. Same thing with a corn pile, when/if legal, put it at a trail intersection away from your already established mineral lick so as not ot disturb it.
Looks like you have a variety of critters in the area. I don't know about the "flying squirrel"; I don't think they move around at night. Could be wrong though. Bucks will pass through looking for does soon enough! Good luck.
Find you a tree stump and get some molasses to pour over it. I don't think that would be considered as baiting since it also has minerals in it. This is what I use and the deer love it. Patience bro patience, they will come. Last year I didn't see a single buck on our property till just before season opened (late September) an then it was an all out on slaught from there. Just be patient an it'll happen
