Put my first homebrew out about two weeks ago over a mineral site. I decided to check it today, and was pretty happy with how things turned out. I had 78 pictures, and only about 4 were false pictures. I had quite a few of a doe/fawn group, and even more of a solid seven point. I thought I would share a few with you guys.
Nice Pictures I always enjoy seeing trail cam photos. Man those homebrew ones that guys have really are super sharp. Thanks.
Thanks, guys, I'm pretty happy with them. Night/evening shots are a littler noiser than I like, but hey, it's serving its purpose, right Pastorjim, it's a Sony S40 fast hacked.
As a general rule, yes it's less expensive. I'm not a huge fan of the picture quality on many commercial units, and battery life always left a lot to be desired (commercial cams are getting much better, however). I like that I can customize based on the features I want (IR, Video, Flash, battery size/life, etc). This cam isn't anything special as far as homebrews are concerned. It's just a Sony S40 driven by a Yeticam fast hack control board inside of a Pelican micro case. It runs off two Eneloop Li-Ion batteries with two Alkaline AAs as a backup. I expect to get about two months usage out of the batteries, and when they do die, I charge the Eneloops and pop in two AAs for backup. If I wanted longer battery life, I could have wired in for two Ds or two Cs if I wanted to. It's all customizable. Plus it's something to do after the season is over (prime time for camera building).
I'll build ya one. Gotta wait until I either get a deer or the season ends, though. Shop closes for hunting season:D
Deal, I needed to upgrade. I'd like to run them at my trapping sites this winter, maybe see what eludes or just checks out my sets.
