First of all I have to thank Jehovah God, Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour for my healing. 2 weeks ago it would not have been possible for me to walk this kind of distance, let alone with a blind, chair and , bow strapped to my back. Went out this morning as it the first day of turkey hunting in VA. Nothing went right. First, the route to the property I was hunting had a DETOUR so, I had to figure out how to get around it. Anyway 30 minutes later I end up finding somewhere to park, 1 mile away form my area . That's not the worst part. To get to my area I had to walk thru the woods with ALL my stuff (exhausting) there was some parts so thick I had to crawl. OK, it gets worse. When I finally get to my area I see Gobblers sneakin' around in the thick stuff . Wait, I told U it gets worse. I start unloading my baggage and... NO ARROWS . I used 1 of those quivers that strap across your back :smash: and they must have come out while I was crawling thru some briars . Even after all that I didn't give up. I stashed my equipment and made the rugged trek back to my car. As I approached my car I reached in my pocket for my car keys and..U guessed it, they're back in the woods with my equipment:smash: . I looked for my arrows on the way back and I didn't find them . Well, now there is not an emoticon to describe what I was thinking now. Those arrows had brand new lighted nocks, new BH's. I'm glad I was only packing 2 arrows. So I get the keys and head back to my car. This time I found a short cut so, I'm feeling a little better now . It's 10:30 when I got back home so, I got some snacks and decided to go back. This time I had my wife drop me off near the detour so I wouldn't have so far to walk:d . So, I get there I set everything up and wouldn't you know it the wind starts blowing so hard that it was pulling my blind off the ground and knocking my decoy around . "OH MY GOD", I'm saying to myself. I was there maybe an hour and a half fighting the wind when my new hunting buddy, Dustin called me on my cell phone. I said, "come get me please!" So, he did. He had just purchased a sight for his new bow so, we went and sighted that in at my house. Everything went right with that . I'll never forget this day. Even though things went wrong, I am thankful that I was even physically able to do the things I did. It had been rough lately with my back so, I was glad just to be out. I did see 3 turkeys . I can't wait to get another crack at 'em. I'll never give up!!!
That is unfortunate and a very bad day. We have all been there when you say to yourself today it was not meant to be. It's a good thing days like that don't happen often. At least you were hunting, and the most important thing is you were capable like you said. Now you earned your bird good things are bound to happen. Good Luck alpha!
Alpha, I had a hunt very similar to that in 2007. I walked in deep, real early in the freezing cold. I had strapped all of my cold weather gear on my back so I didn't sweat too much. By the time I made the trek in, almost all of my gear had been ripped off and spread out throughout the woods. I tried to hunker down and hunt in the low 20's that morning, but could only last an hour because I didn't have any warm clothes. Then I spent the remaining portion of the morning tracking down all of my clothes. But....we at least I was out in the woods!
