First off let me introduce myself as I'm new to this forum. I live and bowhunt in northwest Ohio (Toledo area). I've been bowhunting seriously for a couple of years now. I have never even attempted to gun hunt here as there are limited hunting areas and an over abundance of hunters.

I usually get my hunting fix during the West Virginia (Wetzel County) rifle season on private land. Don't get me wrong....I love rifle hunting and the "deer camp" experience, but taking a deer with a 30.06 has just gotten a little stale.

Well after passing on several does last season and the early season this year I finally let one fly. I had been seeing a lot of little bucks and knew that I was wanted to tag a mature buck or a doe.

After what seems like hundreds of hunts I was finally able to harvest a nice doe. My first deer with a bow! I shot her at 18 yards and she ran about 100 yards after the shot. I can't wait to get back out on stand and do some more hunting.

After having the meat processed I donated almost half of the ground venison to a local food bank. They were happy to receive the meat as they tend to mainly get canned good donations. I have always thought about doing this, but have just never done it. It really makes you appreciate what you have, but most importantly it feeds those who are in need.
