I went out yesterday before work, hunting the stand my buddy took his first deer from. At about 7:15 a flock of turkeys were going nuts behind me. A few minutes later I saw a doe heading my way from the neighbors field. She jumped the fence and came into range.I drew my bow when she went behind a tree. She stopped in an opening at about 20 yards, but she was quartering to me slightly. I didn't feel comfortable shooting at that angle even tho it wasnt too bad. I decided to wait for her to walk into another shooting lane. The problem is she never made it that far. she must have picked up where i walked in, an immediately she knew something wasn't right. She starred in my direction and I froze, still at full draw. I held for the longest time, just shaking like a leaf. She turned and went back the way she came. I tried stopping her and she never stopped. She jumped the fence and went the opposite way with 3 other does. Looking back on it I could have shot, but I had to work at 11 so I didn't want to have to wait to track her. Close call, and the first rush of adrenaline of the year. Next time hopefully I will get a better angle. A few minutes later I saw a big tom coming my way, but he only came to about 50 yards and headed straight for the big group behind me to my left. I heard what sounded like two fighting and wings beats. Overall, it was a great morning and a lot of action for only a 2.5hour hunt. My buddy drew back on a doe too but she stopped behind a tree not offering a shot. I'll give it another go tomorrow!

Great morning indeed and a great start. Sometimes close is just incredible. It's early.
