After spending the last 6-7 weeks in trees, I needed to feel moving water again. I decided to north to my parents' place for the weekend. Its a nice couzy little place tucked back in the oak woods. My Mom is a heck of a cook, like many 50-something Italian women, only we weren't letting her cook that day. We kicked her out of the house so my brother and I could cook her a birthday dinner. My daugher and grandma decided to spend a little quality time. The next day, a few of us decided to do look for some steelhead. The rivers in west MI are extremely low and clear right now, but there are some fish around. Not the best conditions to swing flies, but we're hard headed. We had a couple likely producers in mind. Both gave up a hookup, both by a buddy, but he dropped them both. It happens. So no fish photos on this day. My buddy moments before hooking a bright hen. My brother working the top of a run. I may not have been hunting that day, but I still have deer on my mind. Season isn't over yet, just waiting for the orange army to do their thing. The river could use more of this. The sign was referencing these steps, which help to reinforce the bank. No fish, so scenery would have to do. We found this deer along the river. It still had part of the arrow it in. Didn't look like a bad shot. Appeared to be a quatering away hit, at least liver and the back of a lung or two. Lots of dead kings in the shallows and along the banks. Go Tigers.
Vito, where is that in west MI? I grew up in Whitehall/Montague. Did a lot of flyfishing on the skee, white and rogue rivers. Couple trips up to Ludington now and then. From those scenery pics you have there, it looks a lot like the Newaygo area. Beautiful around there.
The photos were from the Pere Marquette. I fish the Rogue and White rivers a lot. I don't make it on the Muskegon much as I prefer the smaller water.
Pere Marquette... now that is some classic salmon water if you ever wanna do a trade a trip man, I am right on Conneought creek, if your a steelhead guy, you know what i am talking about dad had agroup of guys up from cincy i think last week, the one guy had just moved back from argentina! same water conditions, real hard fishing, but he got em hooked up with a few. this rain this week should color up the water and bring the levels up a bit
