-29 out there this morning (actual, none of this wind chill crap). The chickadees at the feeders are so fluffed up, you can't see their feet.:D Going to warm up to a high of -9 today, then back down most likely breaking the -30 mark tonight. With the lower than normal snowfall so far this year, we are making some serious ice these couple days.... We'll be testing how hard core our icefishing guests are, that checked in last night.
It's 13 above here right now... and I have a question... What do you guys do when it gets that cold!?!? Your animals? Your vehicles? I mean stuff just isn't meant to take that kind of cold.... We have heat tape on our pipes... and its 13 "above"
Truck started. Animals aren't left out for long periods of time, pipes, well one of our cabins had a line freeze this AM, so then you get to thaw it out.... yay.... It wasn't windy out, so you could still be out. at long as you keep your skin mostly covered, you're fine. In fact, we have two guys from Chicago staying here and they icefished all day. Our other guest just got back from the sauna... we're kinda different up here
When I went to college in Bottineau, ND... I couldn't believe how cold it got up there, and I moved there from Chicagoland. After awhile tho', you do get used to it. Sort of. My '78 IH Scout started even at -45 (actual temp) and no engine/radiator heater. My '74 chevy wouldn't start even with a block and radiator heater. The windchill (old system) got down to 110 below on at least one occasion. It was fun in a masochistic sort of way. Can't say I miss that cold and wind any. Global warming can kick in any day now as far as I'm concerned.
