Well i have been looking on here for about the past 6 months about information about mock scrapes and rubs, and rub lines. Well 2 days ago i finally put all of my information together and decided to make a plan. Long story short i put all the information i gathered from here and executed my plan i put in place and well... it payed off.I set out a camera on a fence line monday evening that borders a thicket covered in little pine trees. On the other side of this fence is a pond and all around the pond is pines trees about 25 years old. In front of the camera i made a mock scrape using all of the information that you guys have given me. In stead of going to the store and buying buck urine and a dripper i decided to take a wiz in it since i have read that some of y'all of do that. All up and down this fence line on the pine tree side are rubs. In about a 50 yard span down this fence i counted 23 rubs. All different sizes. Not too big of ones but not too tiny. I figured that the place i put the mock scrape would be the best overall location for my mock scrape do to the location and surroundings. Well Ill just let the pics i got do the rest of the talking for me. This is also the first time ive ever gotten this big boy and littler guy on cam. A big thank you to everyone on this site. Ive gotten so much info from this site and i dont know where i would be without it. Thank you everyone! Now all i need to do is get this hoss on the ground!
I like the crab claw too. That guy has some character and a solid body. Good luck getting him on the ground.
Thanks guys!!definitely planning on sitting for the whole day a couple times back there. Im reallly excited about this deer! But ive thought about something.. If i were to shoot the big guy with my bow it would be the first buck i have gotten with a bow. Now im not saying i wont take a shot at him but if i were to shoot him id have a hard time getting a bigger one than him. My dad said something like if i were to shoot him i wouldnt have anything to look forward to? like shooting a big buck with a bow? Im not really letting his words get to me but ive been thinking about it. what do yall think?
Having shot too big of a deer is never a bad problem. Need to take advantage of the opportunities you get at a big buck because they don't come around very often. Shooting smaller deer after that will still be exciting. I still get jacked up shooting does. Don't overthink things.
Sounds like crazy talk to me. I'd never pass up an oppurtunity on a nice buck just because I may never see one again. You never know what buck will move in next year or what buck will show up due to chasing does. If you're happy with the buck shoot him, but if you kill him don't think you NEED to turn into a "big buck killer." Shoot what you gets you excited.
Thanks guys. Im not letting what he said get to me. There is no way in hell i could pass him up. Just tryin to figure out what yall think! thanks guys
