I've been in the stand for a total of 27 days this year. Today was the first day I saw ANYTHING. I saw 3 does at about 0900. I attempted to call them in, but they just kept walking. Around 1015 I had three does step out from behind me, and the larger doe was at 30 yards. I drew back, picked my spot, and let the arrow fly. As soon as my finger hit my release, she turned and went for the sprint, and I ended up hitting her in the top of her back left leg. This is the first time I've ever wounded a doe, and hopefully it will be the last. I shoot my bow every single day, and I keep playing it through my head, wondering what I could have done differently. I waited about 2 hours and then started tracking. I found the arrow about 30 yards from where I shot her, and while there was a little blood, the trail soon vanished. After spending 3 hours doing circles, I gave up. These kind of days suck, but I'm going to go back out tomorrow, and hope for the best. I'm a little worried I didn't do enough to find her, and I'm wondering if there is a dead deer laying on my property somewhere. Anyone have experience with a shot like that? I'm hoping I'll see her on the trail cam in the next few days, but it really bothers me that this happened. Every single deer I've taken a shot at, I've found. And while there wasn't much blood, I'm worried she's mortally wounded.
So she was perfectly broadside when you let one fly? Vitals to back leg is a pretty good distance at 30 yds. Whats your setup?
She wasn't perfectly broad side, but dang near close. I'm shooting a PSE stinger 3G with a NAP dropaway and a truball release. She came in a little caution, with her tail up, So I'm not sure if I made a noise, or what, but before my string even hit my string stop she was moving.
Well considering this was your first deer you have seen this year im sure you were shaking and would say if you combine the fever with her on high alert it made a bad combo.
