I just picked up a KelTec 9mm for concealed purposes. I had some 115gr 9mm rounds, and to be honest the gun didn't like them at all. Any suggestions on rounds to try? I'd like not to break the bank, but I'd also prefer to be able to actually hit the intruder instead of beating him to death with the box it came in.
Are you looking for rounds to plink with or for self defense? I don't mind buying higher end self defense rounds, it's usually a one time buy. I've been buying a lot of Wolf brand lately. It's low priced and it goes bang every time.
run a few boxes through the gun to get it broken in, Wolf, winchester, remington UMC, federal, see what it likes. my concealed carry weapon pretty much eats anything I feed it. however for carry use I actually like the PDX1 from winchester. always make sure your gun will cycle whatever bullet you decide to go with for personal defense.
Where can you buy Wolf ammo? I looked at there website and it says "gun store", any of the big box carry them?
For plinking... I had a Keltec .380 It shot extremely well with PMC ammo... For defense Speer Gold Dot is a great round...
Check the sportsman guide. They have a huge selection, you might even be able to find something else cheaper that is just as good. Another site I like is AmmoSeek. They give you the lowest price of most of the popular online ammo dealers.
I personally like the umc or winchester 125gr round nose lead for defense if your gun will cycle it - my firestorm by bersa has no problems with it but I usually alternate rounds in the clip with hollow points(umc or remington or winchester)- I know that the lead does a lot better kill job on coons than any other round I have used(tough to get head shots at 50-60 feet with a 3.5" barrel), I think they carry more energy into the target.
Oh yeah the Guide has the ammo along with Cheaper than Dirt and often Midway as well - however you may pay more than the listed price because of HASMAT charges...so you may be better off buying federals from walmart.
Sometimes guns are picky with what they shoot well. Although it can be expensive, your only option is to keep trying different brands. My primary defense gun shoots UMC terribly. Federal's ok, but hornady self defense ammo is more accurate than I thought possible from that gun. Just gotta try stuff.
