What would you rather get shot by? 9mm folks say pass thru power, 45 acp guys say keep the energy inside the body we aren't tracking human blood trails. What say you?

I’d rather be shot by .45
I hear 9mm blows the lungs clean out of the body

neither ..... one thing, a 9mm is cheaper to shoot ... unless you handload ... a M1911 was my sidearm in the Marines ... I believe they are now using Sig 9mm's (?) ...

During residency I took care of a kid that was shot in the face with a 9mm. The bullet was lodged in a sinus cavity and didn’t result in a serious injury. The shooter was standing at the foot of his bed and shot him when he sat up in bed during a home invasion. Not doubt he was lucky.

Funny question. Think i would rather get shot by 9mm.

But if i was shooting, I love my 45. Yes its a heavier gun, but i enjoy that round. This is out of a 1911.

We had a bunch of officer involved shootings with 45acp...many nasty shots and ppl still lived. For example we shot off a guys cajones and one eye and he still lived. Haha. 9mm seemed to put em down a bit faster. Just anecdotal info.

That always amazes me. Just a simple change of angle and small time injuries from gunshot wounds.

I remember training a rookie and on like day 3 we were dispatched to a new years eve shooting. Get on scene and some guy thought it would be a wise idea to get drunk and show everyone how much he loved the USA by holding a gun to his head and pulling the trigger....Lol. He thought it was unloaded. Bullet tra ed down his face and lodged in his jaw...I still remember everyone running around screaming and the rookie was like what the hell. Lol
...kid is now a k9 officer.

That is the reason if i would be shot by one of those rounds, I'd take 9mm. Hoping for a pass thru.

Cant imagine have a hot bullet inside of you, that would be some crazy pain.

all else being equal, I'd take a smaller hole every time. DGAF how fast it's going.

I do know this if you shoot yourself in the head with a desert eagle, there is not much of a head left and would not show on camera.

I was going to refer this post to dnoodles for a proper analysis about small holes and such....but alas this post was from Dnoodles.

I've been shot by a 9mm, but never a .45, I'm still alive so my choice has already been made

I do own both, and if I had to shoot someone and had to choose, it would be the .45 for stopping power and the 9mm for deterring them

can't find it now, but there used to be dash cam footage floating round of a t-stop that turned into a shootout between a Skokie (? - definitely a north Chicago suburb) copper and a bad guy, the cop was carrying a .45 and he went through at least 3 mag exchanges before the bad guy finally went down. They went round and round the 2 vehicles, using them as cover. IIRC the cop popped off over 40 total rounds and hit the guy 11 times, mostly peripheral wounds. Finally hit the guy in the sternum and dropped him like a bag of bricks. I think the cop took a couple in the vest and maybe some limb hits also.

This had to have been from like 2000-2005. I know I saw it in 2006 so my memory on the details is a bit fuzzy on it, but it definitely made an impression.

If a 50 is available why would you buy the others?
