Picked up my 8 point from the taxidermist on saturday. Had to put him up in my shed, lost the battle to put him up with my 9 point in the house! At least I have one in the house! He was shot at 18 yards, on November 16th 2014. Also happened to be my 20th wedding anniversary. If possible, could you guys guess an age and score. I`m guessing 2 years old, and about 80 inches. Thanks you guys, God Bless.

Id say your guess is pretty much dead on man 2.5 yr old 80-90". Congrats!

Guessing an age on a shoulder mount deer is useless. All that's left to guess on is the antlers and that's unreliable. You need a trail cam pic or the teeth.
    Congrats on the deer though.

I agree with coveymaster on the age, but I'm saying about 95". Congrats, and nice mount.

I'd say your guess is pretty accurate. That is a great looking mount, congrats! I think you should put up more of a fight, I'd be afraid that the mount wouldn't last long out in the shed.

I'm guessing about 100"-110", 3.5 yr old since your location.

Nice buck indeed! Who'd you use to get him mounted, you go locally? And yes def, I'm in! Just make sure you recover well, thats nothing to play around with! I went out turkey hunting this weekend upstate and had to chase a nice Tom in order to cut him off about 300 yards down the edge of a corn field then through the woods to cut him off before the pond and boy is my ankle feeling it now! Wish I would have gotten an arrow in him, would make it that much better but he made me when he was at about 40 yards. After that I know I still need a little more rest and physical therapy!

Yes, I use a place called Feathers and fins, its in Oakdale. I love their work. Hope your ankle feels better soon, or when we meet up to shoot we`ll be like a geriatric unit out there!! Be safe, God Bless!

If I shot him I would consider him as a trophy like you do. So many people don't take pride in their "small bucks" which is a shame. I think that if you kill it you should consider it to be a trophy no matter what. Nice buck.

Thanks so much, I love him, like you said , I would not have released an arrow on him if I didnt think he was a nice buck! Thanks again.

Why is that a shame? A lot of people hunt mainly just to get some meat and are not interested in attaching the word "trophy" to an animal. I also don't think you need to put something on the wall to appreciate it.
