Dang that thing has done some damage. Watching footage of the tsunamis ......:jaw: wow to say the least. I heard they felt shaking over 200 miles away.

I was reading about it earlier. It did a lot of damage over there. They have Hawaii and parts of the west coast on a tsunami watch as well.

Caught some videos of this earlier today. Watching cars being swept away almost as if they're nothing was incrdible.

Sad to see so much damage occur and lives lost.

I am shocked it took this long for them to have another major quake. I was in Japan a few years ago, and they had small tremors like every other week.

I was walking thru Tokyo, and tremor came and got me off balance. I about lost it. I was hanging onto a wall. Everyone else just kept on walking like nothing ever happened.

They are pretty well able to handle earthquakes, mechanical wise, but 8.9 is a monster.

I was living in Hawaii a little over 20 years ago when Japan had a minor quake (3-4). Maybe a half-day or a full day later the waves we normally rode at 3-4 feet were about 6-8 feet high. We were pumped and nearly killed ourselves bodysurfing that day!

    Pretty Dramatic Stuff!

This was the strongest EQ to hit Japan in over 140 years and the fifth largest EQ in the world in the last century.

    I am swamped at work!

    :( What a disaster.

Some of my relatives live right on the coast south of Tokyo. (rest of them are further inland) So, hopefully, they're all safe from this.

Think how bad our cities would be if they got hit by this big of a quake. Scary and sad stuff.

I don't know, you ever see a bunch of Japanese people work? They're like bees. :) The Japanese government is almost as screwed up as ours... but when the SHTF over there, they get stuff done... quickly.

Remember the Kobe earthquake in '95? That one killed over 6000 people. It only took a little over a year for manufacturing in the area to be back up to 98% of it's pre-earth quake production levels.

It's going to take awhile for Japan to recover from this... but not like say... New Orleans. ;)

It could be a boost to US manufacturing... maybe.

I guess I should buy stuff for my pole barn before steel and lumber prices get any higher.

No doubt about that!... but there is an opp. here for US manufacturing. (off topic a bit.. but you know how cheap Chinese stuff is here... man, it's next to nothing in Japan. The 100 yen shops (their version of a 'Dollar Store') in Japan are awesome. ;) )

I'll be interested to see how much help China gives to Japan too. Japan has a pretty good record of sending support troops all around the world, now let's see who gives back.

From my experience, Japanese generally don't want jack from China. They have been "funny" ever since Japan invaded and tortured thier people. No sense of humor I guess. So if China decides, Japan will be ok on thier own, I understand.

One thing I learned in Japan. They think of Chinese and black folks as lowest forms of life. White Americans and germans, they respect, not nearly as much as fellow Japanese. They like to emulate anything American.
