I've been backing down my draw weight over time, and as I'm about to where I'd like to get a new bow I'm considering 55 pounds. I know, I used to hunt and can still shoot 70 pounds, but I've had elbow surgery, I have shoulder pain problems and.... I'm tall(ish) - also I don't have the pretty draw form which I should also fix, I draw with a low elbow (I know its not the "correct" way) I am a 30 inch draw but currently pulling 29.5. Getting over my pride that goes along with a lower poundage bow I reviewed the outputs I would get if I did go down to 55 pounds. with a 29.5 inch draw 475 grain arrow my set up (335 IBO) at 55 pounds would get around 260FPS a guy with a 27 inch draw pulling 65 pounds would be getting..... 251 FPS same 27 inch draw at 70 pounds would get up to that 260fps. So why not use my draw length to my advantage, have a easy pulling bow with low poundage and make life easier on me. Plus the bow I'd like to get has a faster IBO than my current bow so my "losses" would be offset by a faster bow. anyone done something similar?
use to be at 75lbs and a overdraw, then 70 lbs, then 65/67 lbs, then 60 lbs, now at 57 lbs and still blowing thru deer ... my bow/arrow specs are in my signature ... .54 Mo. / 77lbs KE .... 430 gr GT arrow/14%foc/30" draw
I have been shooting 53# since 2011 and have 25.5 draw. I have no problems blowing through deer and can’t remember the last time I didn’t get a pass through. I think I am around 240 fps.
be cautious of the brace height, a faster bow means shorter braces, my BT SR350 is at 6", ok to shoot... my Elite Ritual is 6.75", a pleasure to shoot ...... I like a longer brace for forgiveness ... maybe a new bow come spring ...
Elite Ethos has some great specs and the couple people I know with one both love it and shoot it well. Plus, easy tuning with SET. It has been on my radar for a while now too. Not only would you have plenty of energy with a 475 grain arrow doing around 250-260 fps, but also it is much more important to put that arrow where it needs to be. Shot placement trumps all. A comfortable draw weight that keeps you enjoying shooting a bow will make you more accurate in more ways than one.
Great bow and would suit you well, I’m 29.5”-30” draw shooting 70lb on elite era and it’s smoking 280’s and 480gr arrow. Elite has a great offering, with the specs and brace heights. Love the era and almost got an ethos but I really liked the alpha x33 for that ata.
Nothing wrong with dropping weight, shoot what’s comfortable there all great performers and will get passthroughs, my focus is on accuracy and smooth draw bows. Elite has the option of performance or smooth mods too. I went performance as I didn’t see a huge difference in smooth, it just stacks a lil more at the end of the draw on performance.
Sweet baby 8 lb 6 oz Jesus please let us never lose members like^^^^ this. This needs to be the mantra of hunters. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
