Offically got into Colorado at about 1:30 am. I've been driving the entire way, finally had to take a break and let Nick drive for awhile. Figured I'd get on the site and give you guys an update. We're currently about 100 miles east of Denver. We've got about another 6 hours of driving before we get to where we'll be hunting. Hit a nasty storm in Nebraska that was dropping 2.5" Hail. Luckily we were at the edge of it and Nick managed to snap some lightning pics at 70mph. So it was pretty cool to see. Colorado has an aroma of pig manure, but who am I to judge. In a few days, I'll probably prefer the smell of pig poop over what I'll smell like after running around the mountains all week. We'll post more later this afternoon. (Nothing like posting something on the internet from your laptop, while driving 80mph down a freeway).
Just leaving Denver at 3:45am. Headed South. Among the other things you can buy at WalMart at 3 in the morning are Elk Tags.
Awesome! Looking forward to your updates and tips for us other elk newb's about to go in the mountains!
Awesome seeing that tag. I hope I see it wrapped around an elk next. Thanks for the updates, I'm really enjoying them.
About 15 min from out destination. Seen a few antelope and coyotes on the way so that was pretty cool. Anticipation is high
Here's the update today. We got skunked the first day, basically just did some scouting leaving our heavy packs in the woods behind a couple of trees for a few hours. We met up with some locals who gave us some pretty good information, and we're headed out that way this morning, getting camp set up and hunting from there. Mule Deer a plentiful, elk aren't bugling for anybody yet, so finding them isn't as easy as we'd like it to be.
Best of luck guys!!! You've got me pumped...I always enjoy the drive out especially once the mountains come into view. Enjoy every minute...but be ready - it can happen at any time.
Well we are back on the road heading home. Will give a good update when we stop and can get some pictures arranged
