How many here shoot a 500g or heavier arrow? And if you do what is your setup, bow, arrow, broadhead and if you use an insert what weight?

I have 2 arrows that fly well.

    FMJ 300, 30", with 50 gr brass inserts, Flex-Fletch FFP-360 vanes, 125 gr BH - - - 584 grains & 11.7% FOC

    Axis Nano 300, 29", with 50 gr brass inserts, Flex-Fletch FFP-360 vanes, 125 gr BH - - - 518 grains & 14.4% FOC

I shot a 4 year old 11 point at 22 yards 2 years ago with the FMJ 300. The arrow went in behind the shoulder and exited right through the opposite shoulder blade. I still had a complete pass through and the arrow was stuck in the ground.

I just made up some lighter arrows but for a #60 bow.

    Mathews Z7 Xtreme Tactical #60/28DL

ACC 3-49/390, 27", PDP insert (12gr), PDP weight adapter (10gr),
    Flex-Fletch FFP-360 vanes, 125 gr BH - - - 422 grains & 13.9% FOC
I like the PDP adaptors. You can add weight in 10, 20 ,or 50 gr increments. PDP makes insert that fit lots of shafts.

I was going to use Alaskabowhunting "Alaskan" arrows but I really dont have the equipment to do all the cutting and testing so I looked into the Easton FMJ 300's and a friend did the research on my bow with them and at 29.5" arrow with a 150g bh I will get 280 fps, 14.60 FOC and 91.54 KE !!! that should be a great hunting setup !!!

My current set up Is 704 grains of total arrow weight. Very close to full length 340 FMJ's. 100 grain brass Insert with a 220 grain single bevel Outback supreme 2 blade BH. This Is shot out of a recurve pulling 58lbs. 17% FOC If I remember correctly.

In the next couple weeks I'll be tuning a set up with 400 FMJ's. Hope to be In the mid 600 grain range. Same Insert and BH will be used I'm thinking. Not sure what my FOC will be but It should be In that 20% area I'm thinking (hoping). This will be shot out of my recurve as well.

Steve, I am thinking of going to the full length 340's with a 100 grain brass insert and a 150 grain broadhead. That should put me right at 600 grains. My bow probably pulls 53#-'s-55#'s.

I really would love to shoot a two blade single bevel head but those things are expensive. Yikes.

Brett, check these out. Excellent single bevels at a very, very good price.

Thanks Bruce I will check them out. My set-ups keep getting more simplistic over time and I love it. I need about 3-4 broadheads to hunt with and a few to have as practice heads.

    I like this one...

You might be too stiff Brett but maybe not. I'm bordering having too stiff of a set up myself and I have 320 grains on the tip of my arrow and I'm pulling 58lbs.

Currently I have 30.5 inch arrows with about 210 grains up front shooting 400's. The arrows fly well. I cannot imagine shooting a total of 250-300 grains up front and the arrow shooting the same. Maybe I should give it a try. That is why I was thinking of going to the longer 340's with 30% more or so up front to weaken the spine. Not really sure what to do now. :)

Only reason I said what I did was the poundage you would be pulling.

I totally agree. Maybe I should stick with the 400's and if I need to stiffen the spine just reduce the arrow length a half inch or so.

Did you find some of the original German Silver Flames or did you get the Chinese Seeva Frames? I hear the Chinese ones are absolute crap (soft) so watch out for those. That's why I recommended the Samurai head.

Problem to watch out for with the Outback Supremes is persnickity law enforcement. They are technically a barbed head since the blade protrudes back from the furrel. You'd have to find a shaft diameter that fit tight to the trailing edge to be legal up here. Otherwise they look like a great head and the price is certainly right on them.

Rob, I got the original German made Silver Flames a box of 6, and so your saying the Samurai's aren't made in China? because I want to get some single bevels too

Now that you mention it, no, I'm not certain. I'd certainly ask the folks at AK Bowhunting before dropping the green on them though.
