I went out with my ASAT ground blind to hunt the edges of a corn field a couple miles from my house. I set it up in the last few rows of corn looking out over a grassy waterway. I know the deer travel thru here from hunting this farm over the years. Here is my camo job on the blind. About 4:45 I see a doe and a fawn coming my direction in the waterway. They are getting closer and closer, every once in a while they look at the blind but continue on browseing. The doe stops in front of the blind broadside at 12 yards. I touch the trigger on my release and watch my luminock bury behind her shoulder. She runs down the hill and starts to stagger. I see her stumble into the brushy ditch and hear her crashing for a couple of seconds. She made it 60 yards downhill. The Rage did its job again in short order. Yes I do shoot my Rage thru the mesh in my blind. I put a rubberband around the blades and they do not open going thru the mesh. I tried it out quite a few times before I hunted with it. Ok so here are the pics. I had to take them myself, no help around Yes that is the entrance hole!
Awesome-looking photos, and what a great setup you put together!! I picked up a new Double Bull Predator Ground Max blind from Cabela's that day you and I had dinner together for JUST such a plan. I was thinking about nestling it in the last few rows of some standing corn just like that... hope it all comes together for me like it did for you today. I did the family thing the last two days, but I'll be out again tomorrow night barring unforeseen circumstances coming up. Congratulations again!! Perfect shot! Great pics... what more could you ask for?
Wonderful hunt you had there John. Thumbs up on the doe and on the shot. Can't go far when they look like that. Once again, the Rage tore another set of lungs up. I couldn't agree more with Greg. That blind works well in that situation. And funny thing is, I know where a few corn rows meet pasture myself. I had a new Double Bull Matrix blind coming my way but Washington had someone steal it from a shed where he kept it. So, no blind for me this year. Ohh well...I'll keep looking for a blind. In the meantime, IL will be opening up soon and you are getting warmed up in MO. Congrats!!
Dave, I'd highly recommend at least looking into the one I picked up... It's a Cabela's exclusive, I think... and it's VERY nice for $129 or so.
Heading to Cabelas.com right now to scope things out. Greg, this it?!? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0054481&navCount=2&parentId=cat540014&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat21424-cat540014_TGP&parentType=index&indexId=cat540014&rid= And so this thread doesn't get jacked, congrats again John! I owe ya a bag of beans!
That's it... It comes with a VERY nice carrying case, and has inside pockets and a strap with an S-hook to hold your bow from the top of the ceiling.. Lots of little nice touches that you just wouldn't expect from such a value-priced blind. Matt / PA picked one up last month too and really likes it as well. Congratulations again, John! :D
Alright Greg, I think you talked me into it....for what I will use a blind for, I don't need the best of the best. Looks great for a value blind. Not too shabby of a pattern either!! John, did I mention how great that shot was? The Rage really punched a hole in her. :d
John, Nice work! The blind looks awesome and you made a heck of a shot on her, not to mention your shirt looks good too! I just picked up a blind today and am going to check it out tomorrow.
No video Tony. There's enough going on when the shot needs to be taken for me to worry about a video camera too. I am not one of those guys who could pass up a shot just because the camera isn't ready.
Excellent job on blending in the blind< and congrats on the doe. Nothing like fresh venison on the grill. Greg, I think you may have convinced me to look at that cabelas blind. I like the pattern on it as well.
Just some great photography overall... Congrats again, John. From a great hunt, great shot placement and finally to some awesome pictures. VERY well done!
