I'm taking the 150 all day. I didn't even have a buck on camera last year that would scored P&Y until November 20 something, and my standards stayed the same, and I hunted my butt off. I have no problem laying off a buck and going without. 125ish are going to walk by eventually, but a 150 is when those suckers start to get big. I killed a 155" going on 5 years ago, I doubt I ever get a better one with my bow.
I'm lucky if I could see a 120 to 130 buck so I'd luck to shoot 5 of those in 10 years. However I think by me if I saw a 150+ that would be buck of a lifetime (still waiting). I amy take the big one. Both are awesome in my opinion. No wrong answer!
I am taking the 150 for sure....I can eat doe meat ... BTW, if I shoot a 150 in NY, and they are here, tho very rare, I am not shooting a 120 the next year....
The question should be...Would you sit in the woods for 5 years for 1 deer? I'm a fat guy in training, so I need the meat.
Can I shoot a 150"+ every other year? If so, I will go with that... I like to let those 120-130 bucks grow. And honestly I hunt bucks for horn with the added benefit of meat. If it is meat I am after I'll hunt does.
You couldn't pay me to hunt my *** off in a treestand for 10 years and only kill one buck. That would be miserable even as a world record. I like killing stuff.
Where I hunt you have about the same chance of either. Killed a 159 in 2011 and nothing since so not sure which plan I'm on. I like the 5 though.
Interesting thread. I'm surprised so many are choosing the 5. The way it seems around here sometimes, everybody lets smaller buck walk and just want those big boys. Yeah, I'm taking the 5 to cause I like killin' stuff.
On a year to year basis yeah, but in this situation you have to choose against one buck in TEN YEARS! That's a decade of unsuccessful hunting lol, that's a tough pill to swallow no matter how big he is.
It's definitely geographically specific. Here in PA, it's not even an option. 5 120-130" all day long, and most likely even that is setting the bar awfully high.
