What is everyone cooking for the 4th?

Having the wife's family up today, then my family up on the 4th.

    Our menu:

    - grassfed burgers from local farm with homemade brioche buns
    - home cut fries
    - olive orzo salad
    - grilled fingerling potatoes with smoked paprika
    - dijon-dill potato salad
    - Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale and Le Merle Saison
    - grilled peaches with cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar sprinkled on top, served over vanilla ice cream

As you can tell, I have a crapload of potatoes from my garden.

Nothing expensive about my menu. Most of it is homemade or straight out of my garden...

I get a really good price on the grassfed beef because I know the farmer quite well.

For me this weekend will be water, Popsicles, ice cream, applesauce, mashed potatoes, boost, and ramen noodles. The more I think about it the more I dread having my wisdom teeth taken out on 4th of July weekend. It was either that or right before I go back to school though...

I told the wife to surprise me. :D

I do know we will be having cake at my uncle's 80 birthday party tonight. Probably eat out before that since we have to head out early so we can stop in and see another uncle as he banged himself up pretty bad and won't be at the party. He just got done with Chemo treatments when he fall and fractured his shoulder and hip. He is 81.

    My menu...

Checking trail cameras and setting one up this morning.
Going birthday partying, BSing with the relatives and dancing tonight with the wife. The amount of dancing depends on how many beers are consumed.

Spray the yard tomorrow morning to kill off some skeeters.
Running a muck with the grand daughter ( Christine ) and causing trouble for her grandma.

Shooting of fire works with Britney and Christine Sunday night since Christine has to leave on the 4th.

The 4th is wide open for me. No idea what I will being doing. Pretty sure it is not cooking though. Wouldn't want the wife to go into shock although she definitely deserves the day off from it. Now you made me feel guilty. I hope you are happy. :hater:

    Hope everyone has a good 4th !!

    Tim

We're getting together a couple families of the kids my boys play with all the time in the subdivision... One's dad is a HECKUVA cook, and he pretty much put the menu together.

    Fried catfish
    boiled crawfish
    Fried shrimp
    Onion rings
    Hush puppies
Hot dogs and hamburgers for the kids
    etc., etc.,

I just focused on the fried catfish, shrimp and crawfish :D

Grilling of some sort at my sister-in-laws house and swimming. I'm on call once again for work, so I guess I can't drink too many beers...

Same here...luckily the wife of the guy I work with always brings him in lunch on Sundays. I'm always included. Today we had homemade sweet & sour chicken and fried green beans. Worked for me. :D

Well tonight I am having fresh shrimp we caught ourselves. We are cooking burgers and fries for those who do not eat seafood. I will take the remainder of the shrimp, scallops, grouper and a few other fish we caught and make gumbo tonight. I absolutly love seafood, and I like it straight from the ocean even more. Some people make their gumbo with one or 2 items, I will put every piece of fish, shrimp, etc you got and make mine. I do not think you can have much seafood in gumbo, just like you cannot have to much meat in stew.

Scallop season opened last weekend and we went diving for them today...we have quite the haul.

We smoked half of a 120 lb hog yesterday and have the other half on the smoker right now. The party begins in about 13 hours. Booze, pig and pool.
