I'm new to archery and hunting. Have always been interested in both but my dad didn't hunt and I didn't know anybody so I'm in a position in life that I can learn on my own. I used to ride motorcycles and used forums to educate myself on the different brands and models for my next bike. I'm hoping to use this forum to educate myself about bows and hunting. I bought my daughter a kids bow and I play shoot it more than she does so i decided to find something that actually fits me. I've been learning about the different brands such as PSE, Bear, bowtech, Martin and RedHead. So Basspro has suggested i buy a PSE rally. The archery shop guy recommended a PSE 3G Stinger. Should I go with one of these or another brand? What about buying used? Is that wise?

You sound like me three years ago. Welcome. You've come to the right place.
I went with a Mathews but PSE makes some nice bows as well. Have you got any local archery shop where you can deal with the owners and get more personalized service?

    Enjoy the hunt.

Welcome to the site! PSE has some good bows. Fastest on the market too. Used bows are good. Check some local Archery shops and see what they have on hand. Good Hunting this year!

Another guy from Cali. Right on. I'm from ventura. Give a look at Mathews bows. Really they're all good these days just that Mathews has something special going on.

Go to the archery shop and shoot several bows and see which one feels the smoothest to you and you have your first bow. Welcome to the site, there are some great people on here. But be forewarned, archery and bow hunting can be very addictive! ;)

Also look into some hunting areas or leases near you that you can get into. The best thing about hunting is spending one on one time out in nature and you've got some beautiful nature around you.

    Welcome to the site!

PSE makes some good bows. Most manufacturers do :tu:

Go shoot some and see what you like.

Like everyone else is saying. Shoot several bows and see what you like the best. I definitly agree with going to an archery shop and staying away from big retailers like Bass Pro. Used bows are a great option for a first bow. A little less money, so if you decide its not for you than you aren't out as much; plus, if you get addicted you will probably be looking for a new bow in a year or two once you find more out about all the brands.

I'm curious to know what you ended up buying? I'm new to bow hunting as well. I had been hunting a bit when I was younger and after 15 or so years of working, working, working, I decided to get back into it. I got my father in law to give hunting a shot 3 years ago and he fell head over heels with it. He decided to get into bow hunting and bought me a PSE Stinger 3G and I have to admit, having never shot a bow before I'm very impressed with the feel and velocity. This 2014 season will be my first bow season and I'm pretty comfortable with the bow after a lot of practice.

Welcome to the forums! I currently shoot a PSE Stinger HP which was the bow the year before the Stinger 3G was released. Great bow! Mine is from 2011 and besides some maintenance such as strings, it still shoots great!
