I remember a time when it took 5 1/2" brace bows to get 315 fps and the cams were ridiculous to pull. We get 330+ with 7" brace and cams that are actually shootable. Makes it nice for people like my son that can shoot much more efficient bows at 25"draw and 40#.Not needed but it can be useful if done correctly. There will need to be some major advancements with arrows if that kind of speed is reached. As well as other materials such as strings.
You give me a bow that shoots as nice as today high end offerings from the top companiesout there and it shot 450fps...I would say hell yes. The thing is we all know the trades offs needed to get there now and we wouldn't be willing to except them as the currently are. Bows have come a hell of a long way since I bought my first compound back in 1989.
I'd for sure buy one. Here's an interesting article I came across discussing the physics of it: http://www.huntersfriend.com/bow-review-400-fps-bow/400-fps-compound-bow.htm
I dont see anyone shooting the old flintlock rifle w/round ball anymore and no one is complaining about the new inline guns with shotshell primers and smokeless powders.... How is this any different???? I dont see the stick bow guys asking for a separate season because the compound guys have a unfair advantage.
I'm gonna just throw this out there, don't be too harsh. We're men, it's in our nature to want and need faster, better, and newer. Even those of us on here that say we'd never need to own a 450 fps bow (which realistically we don't) a small part of us would still be curious and intrigued, almost to the point of purchase. It's in our DNA, and to quote anchorman, "that is a scientific fact"
that much speed just makes it that much quicker i can miss him. would rather have bow that's little slower but forgiving and lets me put arrow exactly where i want.
#1 There was a fluted shaft in the 80's, X Caliber I belive was the name. It shot no better or worse than the Eastons. #2 The bigger the feather the faster it will stabilize an untuned arrow, it will also drift more in a cross wind "it's the law". #3 I'll take a good 275 fps quiet bow with a little bit longer valley and a soft back wall any day over a speed bow for hunting.
Kevin strother has already built a 400+ fps bow an used razor blades as fletching it can be done but not safely yet
