this camera rivals the j10 for flash distance and pic quality though it is slower - I also get some motion blur on 1/3-1/2 the pics but I think I can tweak some settings yet to eliminate some of that. I moved this cam up to the minerals where I had the j10 all spring and summer for some good action and I am very happy with the results...the last pic just to show flash range and I know I can get it more effective range with a mounting angle adjustment. pics only cropped and/or adjusted for brightness on some.
here's a good place to start your search.. http://www.d.umn.edu/~shall/Homebrews.htm ..the guy that put this together runs camtrapper.com - where I get and post most all of my info on camera hacks and cambuilds except for the 'AIO'(all in one - do it yourself) which you may find you want to try sometime in the future but is a lot more work/complicated(also has certain restrictions regarding sales of units using the design). The best sites for info regarding the Homebrews are Camtrapper, Hagshouse, and OutDoorTalk...I also frequent a newer site DIY Trailcams for an extensive list of hack videos and info for all homebrewers. Chasingame also has a homebrew section and just about all the info you could want on the commercial cams coming out - reviews and discussion about cams in the field performance and issues. If there is interest I could post a thread detailing my start to finish on a particular cam but it would be much simpler and show you a lot more options by just checking out those sites and the myriad of cams and cam build combinations and layouts. I do have a couple cams for sale in the classifieds here with pics of the builds there.
