Hey Just wondering why some people have 3D bows and hunting bows? Wouldn't you use the same bow for each? Obviously different arrows but why different bows? I don't understand why you don't just use the same bow for both since 3D shooting and hunting are fairly similar. Thanks
Certain setups are better for one or the other. As far as arrows go, my hunting arrows are much heavier than my target arrows and would not shoot the same out of my 3D setup. Lots of other reasons but too tired to write them now. Nothing wrong at all with shooting your hunting bow for both though, just depends on the level you want to be at.
I have two setups also one for hunting the other for 3d or tournys. My hunting arrows are heavier than my target arrows. Also some guys use the glued in heads so you cant just unscrew them and switch. I also shoot a way lower poundage for 3d. I hunt with 65 to 70 lbs and i shoot tournys at 55 to 60 and to adjust all that and adjust my sight to the lower poundage then back again for hunting is to much to do and worry about. I also use two totally different styles of rest for 3d and hunting. It just depends how serious you wanna get into it.
When I shoot 3D I just use my hunting rig. I don't have the money for another setup and I don't get very serious with it. I do it for fun so I still use my heavy arrows and everything that would be on my bow during the fall. Like said above it all depends on serious you are with it.
I'll do my best to help answer this. Why 2 different rigs? Two different set ups. Most like a longer axel to axel when shooting 3D. It's more stable. Stabilizer set ups are a lot different for the open class shooters such a myself. Sights are different. Most have smaller sight (scope) housings and even have magnification lenses. This is great for shooting 3D but, get that in a low light situation, good luck. Believe me, I hunted with my 3D set up this past year. Same goes for the peep. Small and doesn't let in great amounts of light. Rests, most serious 3 D guys use a lizard tung, Bodoodle or some other rest that isn't designed to be used in a hunting situation. I personally use the same bow, rest, sight and release for it all. It's my target set up minus the long front stabilizer. I prefer a longer ATA for everything so it works for me. I killed 2 deer with it this past season. I just change out my side bar to the front. I also change from a fat shaft target arrow to a standard arrow that's heavier for hunting and turn my poundage back up. Here is my bow set up for hunting then pic of target set up.
