I have a draw length of 31.5". There are not many bows with a draw length this long is there any thing I can do to a smaller bow to help with this problem?
Depending on what length you have to work with you can lengthen your D-Loop to change your anchor point i wouldnt go with anything shorter than a 30'' draw , i mean you dont wat to be making a 3'' loop either you could rip your ear off .....lol
You could take an inch off that with a D-loop and a release possibly. Remember, the longer your draw the more FPS you get. Seems to me there are enough bows that you could find that one that fits you great. Take the time and get the right one.
I have the same draw length as you and had to do quite a bit of shopping around last year when I bought my new bow. If you try to shoot as many different bows as you can, you'll find that some draw lengths are different than others. I ended up buying a Bowtech Destroyer 340 set at 31" and it fits me perfect with just a normal length D Loop.
Use the gift that's been given to you. Get a bow that fits and reap the benefits of your long DL. What's your budget?
like Ben said the budget is a big factor. i have a mathews switchback LD (long draw) and have a 31/32" draw. i like shoot the shorter draw for a bit more control. but not many used switchback LD's out there... just ordered the Z9 last month (will get it in July) but in my opinion getting equipment that "fits" is the best move you can make.... good luck
As soon as I saw this post I was afraid I was going to see the "use a longer D-loop" response. This does not fix the issue. It still amazes me that people subscribe to this handicapping technique to address an improper draw length. In my mind it's one of the WORST things you can do to a system. You're going to have a poor anchor (string too far forward), poor sight picture (peep too far forward), and a substantial loss of speed and energy (about 10 fps/inch of draw length) plus the loss from the added weight on the string. Having a long draw length is a HUGE advantage; don't sell it short. Every manufacturer has at least one model that will get you that longer draw length. Search around until you find one that fits and take advantage of that extra energy. Don't hobble yourself with a bow that doesn't fit you.
For one it was just a sugestion it was a definate say so that this will fix your problem , i was was simply under the impression that the question was what if i'm a 31'' draw par say and i really like this 30 1/2'' draw bow that has draw specific cams what can i do to shoot it with my draw length , i wasnt saying that the longer d-loop is the propper answer it was a sugestion , i know that changing the d-loop length only changes your anchor not the draw length of the bow .........I personally am a 29'' draw i set all my bows to what fits my comfort at full draw and its usually 28.5'' with my slight bend in my bow arm as i do not believe a straight locked bow arm makes for a steady anchor , i like to lock my bent bow arm to my anchor as pull the bow back to me and set anchor........Just my oppinion
I just got the Mathews Z9, it is designed for the longer draw lenght shooters. I shoot a 30" and it is by far and away the most comfortable bow I have ever shot. Do yourself a favor and get one. You will not be dissapointed.
Simple case of draw length envy. sorry i had to There a lot of bows out there with long draw hoyt, elite, strother and all great bows.
Im technically a 32", but I prefer to shoot a little short...just a comfort thing. I shot a bunch of 31" draw bows this past winter. The ones that really stood out to me were the Maxxis 35 and Carbon Matrix, Monster 7 (you can also do a Monster 6 with 32" M7 mods), and the D340. Theres a bunch that go that long though. If youre leaning towards a Strother like I was when I first started looking, make sure you shoot it at the correct draw length. Ive heard that the LD options for them somehow take off a bunch of letoff, bringing it down as low as 50%! This may have just been a proshop setup issue, so still give them a run. I think the Prime Centroid goes out to 32" also. Dont lengthen your loop though. If anything, adjust the length of your release, but make sure you still have a good anchor point for your hand against your face/ear/whatever. And for what its worth, I bought a Maxxis 35 @ 31", and I really like it! Drawing 65lbs and throwing a 30 3/4", 390 grain arrow right around 310fps. PLENTY FAST!
The Bear Carnage goes to 30.5" and the actual DL seem to be about .5" long so it would come out to 31" and with a d-loop you could make it out to 32" if you have the money for a Carnage and want the speed (345 fps). Bear also make the Mauler which has a 31" DL. This bow still shoot pretty fast at 328fps and you can find one for a descent price.
