I've made some changes to my bow set-up and I'm going to have to shoot a .300 spine arrow now. I'm haven't decided what arrow I want to shoot as of yet and I'm headed to Canada in about 8 weeks for a bear hunt and would like to get a couple of 3D shoots in between now and then for confidence building purposes. I shoot the same bow and arrow combo for both hunting and 3D (hopefully I'll have separate bows in the future). What arrow would you shoot and why? And just because I know someone will ask I'm shooting: Mathews MR7 30.5" Draw 71.5 lbs
Gold Tip Velocity .300 XT at 30" with 100 grain heads. You would have a finished weight of about 380 for 3d....I would then add 50 grains up front to get you to about 430 for hunting which would give you plenty of FOC, in a medium weight tuff arrow.... They are decent priced, durable and consistent.
i would recommend looking at the easton axis full metal jackets they will give up the weight you need for the bow plus with the small diameter shaft you will get deeper penetration an less wind drift. plus they feel an look like top notch high quailty arrows that you can depend on
I built a set of .300s that performed awesome. I used a gold tip velocity pro .300. The shaft is light, so that let me add weight exactly where I wanted without being too heavy (for my liking). I even added weight to the insert and nock (made the nock the same weight as a lighted nock). I've been thinking about going back to this setup. http://forums.bowhunting.com/showthread.php?32120-My-new-arrow-setup
I'm liking what you've got going on here.... I'm not a "speed freak" but I do like a flat shooting set-up. My previous set-up I was shooting a 410gr arrow at 328fps, even though that's not a super heavy arrow with the speeds I was shooting I could still shoot through a rhinoceros long ways.
I like the shaft because it's a midweight in my opinion. The .300 will let you have a higher FOC and still maintain a good tuneability.
