    hi ,
i dont know what i could possibly be doing wrong i have been going bow hunting for 30 years and still have not killed a deer with my bow, my son kills a deer just about everytime we go out. i take all of the precautions scent eliminator, cover scent.... we decide where we are going to hunt and who is going to set up where and i never get a shot. we practice all year , i just got a new x force , so far this year its the same thing i havent seen anything my son has killed 4. has anyone ever heard of having not killed a deer after 30 years of bow hunting.

Not sure....... might be some kind of record.

It seems like you have the right equipment and I'm guessing that you can shoot. So, I recommend that you start studying deer and learn more about them. Start scouting also. This way you'll better be able to put yourself in position to get a shot.

    Good luck.

I'll give you one thing, you may be either the most persistant or stubborn bowhunter on the face of the earth. Congrats on that, and good luck this year!

I would say hunt with your son or get him to set you up a stand to hunt from. Sounds like he knows a little more about it.

I say go about hunting like you have been with your son, but when you get out there tell him to go to the stand you were originally going to. Pull the ol switch-a-roo on him

my dads buddy has been hunting whitetail deer with a gun for a about 40 some odd years and about 15 with a bow and he has never even seen a deer in the woods while hunting. I think some people are just unlucky.

I hope the best for you this year and dont give up its gotta happen sooner or later

Sounds like the best course of action for you is to hunt with your son. He'll either rub off on you and you'll get lucky, or you'll rub off on him and he'll quit killing deer.

As others have said, hunting with your son might be a good idea. If I were you I would change what I am doing dramatically, if for no other reason than to just have fun with it.

Do you see deer? Maybe your not looking correctly. I'm serious, many people look for a deer, you need to look for movement, things out of the ordinary, Horizontal lines in an otherwise vertical woods.
Seeing an ear, or legs etc and recognizing them as a Deer, from afar, keeps you still as the he/she approaches your shooting lane.

By now you probably have so much internal pressure for the kill, that your head is on a swivel. Relax enjoy the experience, look for deer (parts & movement) farther out than normal.

You have my respect for sticking with it ...This will be your year! Can't wait for the story!

thaks for your input guys, some of you guys are real funny. dont get me wrong i have killed about 75-100 deer with black powder over the years . and me and my son do hunt together, 50 -100 yds apart ,but when i was about 17 or 18 my wife then girlfriend found out i was bow hunting over bait which by the way is legal in our state, she went off and said it is morally wrong and she hoped i never killed a deer. for the next 33 years i have thought about that every single time i have picked up my bow which now is an x force, not that it matters i have never had a deer show up while bow hunting. hmmmm very interesting to say the least but i will never quit. my son will call me from from his stand and say hey did you hear that and i know instantly what it is, its his arrow smackin another deer . i get just as exited as if i shot it , o well maybe someday

It took me 7 years of gun hunting before i saw a deer. That includes scouting and hunting hard. I killed my first deer on the 8th year of gun hunting.

Then there were guys I know that would just show up, no scouting, warm up their breakfast and snacks in their ground blind and kill a deer every year (not the same property). I would scout hard all year sit all day and not see anything for 7 YEARS!.

If I was a reasonable person I would of giving up hunting a long time ago but I'm too damn stubborn. Bow hunting has not been much kinder to me. I work harder than anyone I know and all that happens is my friends just laugh at (with) me about why I "waste" so much time out there in the woods. I'm not going to see anything anyway.

I bet if you tie your bow to the bow rope but leave it on the ground when you get in the stand you will have a close encounter with a deer :tu: Never fails!

Or if you move a stand during season and have your bow on the ground while you are hanging.

Hang in there and good luck!

    Have you considered Bowling:beer:

I'm one of the lucky ones who have hard time seeing brown, not a good trait to have for deer hunting or Grouse hunting. If I don't pick a horizontal line hear a branch break (I'm also getting older and the hearing is not so keen:mad:) or catch movement it's tuff going...

Horseshoe or Rabbitt's Foot could be a good purchase:)
