My daughter had another commitment Saturday so I decided to go to a piece of local land a friends company owns which is open to the public. I got permission to keep a ladder stand on it for trying to fill my doe tag which I cannot use on my normal hunting land. Friday evening early Saturday we got a couple inches of fresh snow. So I grab my gear and head out for an afternoon sit. As I'm approaching the stand, out of the corner of my eye to the left I see movement. I turn and look and there is a deer's rump and tail hoping away. Wasn't on a full run, just a slow bound in the other direction. Crap. So I climb up into my stand. Maybe I would get lucky and what ever it was would circle back or come through in a different spot and I'd get a shot. Well, make it through the sit with nothing showing up. Out of curiosity, when I get down, I walk to where I saw the tail to check to see if it had been a bedded deer or not. It wasn't. It was a set of decent sized tracks, heading right for my opening. Had I been about 30 minutes earlier I would have been in my stand, when it walked into my clearing at about 15 yards away. I think to add insult as I walked the 1/2 mile back to my car, in 4 different spots there were fresh tracks on top of my footprints from walking in. Deer were moving must out of my sight. Ahhhh, Hunting, the sport that can be so irritating and enjoyable at the same time.
Hahaha happens. Went back to my truck a few mornings ago during a fresh snow. Had 3 sets of fresh tracks 10 yards in front of my truck. Apparently I didn't have to walk 1/2 mile to my stand. I just laughed it off.
