The 3 pointer puts short white guys that can't jump back into the game. You say the 3 pointer detracts.... I say the 7 foot guy with the 10 foot wingspan detracts. LOL P.S. ..... and.... we know this is alll about last night. LOL Some one said UNC dominaged Duke last night on the front line. Of course they did... they have 2 seven footers one of which can leap small buildings.... so Duke took it outside. IF they don't make them.... they loose. I didn't tell Zellar to go out and guard the 3 point shot at the end of the game.
The 3pt line is the great equalizer. Look at some of the players out there that are on major D1 teams that are 5' nothing. If there wasn't a 3pt line those (average sized) guys wouldn't have a scholarship. Not every team can start a front line of 7 footers w. skill, so teams are build differently based on who they can recruit. You can be an undersized team and still compete. Take Missouri for example. The tallest player on the team is 6'9" center. The have a 6'6" guy playing in the 4 spot defending against 7 footers. They win in other ways. They spread the floor, shoot a high percentage from 2 and 3. They hit their freethrows, and they play hard defense and turn other teams over. About Duke and UNC. Coach K does more w. less, and Roy does Less w. more. That's what it really boils down to. As a MU fan, I'd rather Roy would have stayed at Kansas because Bill Self coaches circles around him.
Spoken like a true short dude like me Players should be given stilts so they are all equal on the field of play. next thing Atlas will be wearing Obama 2012 shirt
Still not sure why every other posts states that I want to do away with the 3 point line. I simply said move it back. Bring some risk/reward back to the original premise of having it. Surely if they are such sharp shooters another foot or two won't make a difference. Christ its a 20' jump shot. You see 3 and 4 guys taking that shot with ease. I'm sure that wasn't the intent origianlly Nobody has answered the question yet. Why did they move it back in 07'? Did somebody just decide to start painting new lines across every gym in the nation? Or was there reasoning for it? If so what was the reason? I'm betting the same as today. Was it that absurd of an idea back then?
I've always wondered why this doesn't get more attention. Williams is probably the best in the history of college basketball at getting the least out of his talent...and he's still won two championships! Hell of a recruiter, but just imagine if he could coach.
For the 27th time..... don't take it away, move it back. But since you mentioned golf in this. What did the PGA do when dudes started ripping drives 300 yards? Move the tees back, shorten fairways/landing areas, grow the rough deeper. What did they do when dudes started hitting 300+? Move the tees back farther, reconfigure holes, shorten fairways more, grow rough deeper. They kept the risk/reward factor based on the current athletes abilities. If they didn't make changes to keep the game to be played the way it's supposed to be, players would need 3 clubs. A driver, wedge and putter. Baseball fences went from a minimum or 250' to 325' over the years. Pitchers mound has dropped 5 inches. Same as in basketball. Gets easier to make, number of shots on average go up, percentage of makes go up, time to adjust.
Well don't lead off with such a vague and absurd statement. It was hard for me to pay attention after that.
I haven't read any replies yet so forgive me if its been covered but the line being where it is has creates much needed parody in the game. Look at march madness. On any given day any team can win and we as fans get the benefit from it.
OK Nybowhunter... you've convinced me. We'll move the 3 point line back 2 feet and while we're trying to be fair... we'll move the basket to 12 feet. What's fare is fare. LOL
So, moving it back a couple of feet won't make a difference? I thought that was what you wanted? I know I am easily confused but....what are you saying here? I agree with your golf analogy. The tees were in fact moved back and landing areas made more challenging. So, how far back should the 3 point line go? Maybe the half-court line should be worth 4. Now that could make for some fun. I bet the Globetrotters would be unbeatable. Tough to defend that half court shot.
I was being sarcastic believe it or not. I think it would make a big difference. In 2007 it was moved to 20' 9" to match the international distance. Since then the international distance was moved in 2010' to 22' 2". I think matching that again would seem the sensible thing to do and a good distance to go by. This wouldnt be the first time by a lot of differnt leagues that it was extended. Not sure why this so hard to grasp. Why have they been moved in the past?
I dont think anyone on this fourm understands basketball lol. Lets make rules so you cant shoot 3's. LMAO hows that s*it supposed to work.
And no dunks and no one with a 40 inch leap and no one taller than 6'6" God... it's socialism all over. P.S. I forgot a couple. No one with an IQ over 130 or below 110. If you can't pass the SAT's.... go dig a ditch.
