It doesn't happen a lot. If it did we would be seeing a ton more upsets than we do by unranked teams over ranked teams. Lets not foregt that Duke is a pretty good team without the 3 pointer and what you are saying is that, if all a team has is a couple of good 3 point shooters they can upset ranked teams.
You may not know anyone but you can bet if the rules weren't making a ton of money for the NFL then they would change them. That's why they are what they are now. They were changed to make more money. The game was meant to be played for money as are all professional sports these days. The rules will be made to allow for the most money. If the fans weren't giving up the money for the games, as they are played now, then the rules would change.
what is the common denominator when we do see such upsets? Not all but most? Duke is an awful team without the 3 pointer. What else is good about them? I was laughing watching them play defense and try to get rebounds. Did you see them play? Absolutely. They could either get beat by 20 if missing them or upset if making more than usual. But that's all they resort to because they know they can't hang in any other category.
Why even play the game if underdogs have no chance without the three, as you seem to imply? Duke is awful? Now you're just being ridiculous. Can you please have a serious discussion?
Yep I agree and that's kind of my point. It's pretty TV. Obviously always going to be popular. I'm a fan and watch because it's entertaing and always have been a fan. But it's far from the way football was meant to be played. Some of it is borderline ridiculous and heads towards a pro bowl format in another decade. But yeah, I still watch and enjoy watching most of it.
I havent' watched Duke too much until last night. If that's what they have then yes... they aren't very good IMO. They have next to no front court. I guess their guard play is ok. They are small. They allow penatration like I've never seen before. They defend the perimeter so so. They are laughable on the boards. Yeah.... I think they aren't a very good team. but dam can they launch some threes
I did, and not just last night. "Awful" is a ridiculous comment. You're team lost dude...get over it.
Has nothing to do with my team losing. I already conceded a sweet 16 loss and not winning the ACC. I've been over it since I kicked the cat last night. I'm speaking in general. It happens across the board in college bball these days. Answer me one question then I'll shut up. Why did they move the line back in 07'/
Duke and UNC have identical records. They play in the same conference. Duke had a tougher nonconference schedule. Duke beat UNC. If Duke is awful, what is UNC? God awful? Might I suggest Mr. Williams recruit some outside shooting. 16.7% from 3-point range is, how should I say this...awful.
Like I said in another post.... talented and underachieving. And like I said, lose in the sweet 16 and not win they're conference. Never proclaimed them to be anything special. Mcdonald and Strickland being out for the season doesnt' help. UNC isn't very deep. Marshall isn't a shooting PG. I guess they rely on more balance in basketball. You know, post game, rebounding, transition and defense. But maybe you have a point. Hire some guns. When in rome.......
Teams average 35-40 threes a game. That's more than "an aspect" of the game. It's become too dependant. Lost it's risk/reward like it was intended to. BYU launched 71 threes in the tournament last year!!! Now that's some good basketball and gameplan.
Yeah I don't know why any team would play to their strengths. The game changes, like all sports. Stop being old. How are those wooden shaft golf clubs you use?
Is being able to defend the 3 point shot not a big part of the game? Wouldn't a superior team be able to shut down a weaker opponent if the only strength that weaker team had was distance shooting?
This discussion is ridiculous. UNC's front line dominated Duke's. Namely, Zeller manhandled Plumlee. I still think UNC has the best front line in the nation. UK's is tough, no doubt, but come tournament time I would rather have Henson, Zeller and Barnes. Should points shot in the paint no longer count because Carolina's front line can get points nearly every trip down the court in the paint? Should blocked shots be ruled goal tending because Anthony Davis gets 18 of them a game? Calvin Johnson is too tall for cornerbacks to cover. What about Justin Verlander? He should at least have his innings limited because he throws too hard. Geesh...
Michigan gets out rebounded EVERY game, but the still manage to win, because they when the TO battle. Michigan is never going to be a good rebounding team. MI coach is smart and knows this and runs a defensive scheme to create more TO. The Offense is setup to not TO bal over. Coach K out coached roy last night, Duke was the better team that night.
Finally, a new avatar. I was starting to hate you, and it wasn't even your fault. Well, you did make a dumb bet. Its a little bit your fault, but I still love you.
I see a lot of people gripe about the 3 pt line being too close.............at least making a shot from that distance takes some skill. Basketball is..........and always will be a joke of a sport until they raise the hoop. It's nauseating watching the clowns on Sportcenter try to make yet another 6' 8" guy cramming the ball into a hoop barely above his reach sound exciting for the 10,000th time. You know the sport is a joke when one of it's best players of all time (Shaq) wouldn't have even played if the basket was out of his reach............LOL, one of your GREATEST players ever, can't shoot a basketball!!! Luckily for them people still shoot each other in line trying to buy their shoes or the sport would be extinct.
