I really think it's taken away from the college basketball game. This isn't about the Fluke vs. UNC game last night. I've been saying this forever. They did move it back in 07', but not far enough and time to move it back farther. A 20 foot jumpshot for these athletes is nothing. I think it has too much of an unfair outcome to games. A teams gameplan against a better team is to chuck as many threes as they can and hope to get hot. And a lot of times (especially in the tournaments) it works. I want to see the best teams win if they are playing at a high level. I'm all for upsets, but beat a team playing basketball and not a talent competition. I would just like to see more nose to nose, head to head, bash it out in the paint basketball like back in the day. It's almost like a little coward running away from a fight or punching someone and running. I mean look at Duke last night. 36 THREE POINTERS!!!! Wow... think about that. That's what the game has turned into. You know you're getting your *** kicked, the only chance is to heave up a bunch of threes and hope for the best. Really?
It spreads the floor and makes the game more exciting. You want to see everyone packed into the paint while the team passes the ball around the horn for 30 seconds? Stop being old.
The floor will still be spread and college basketball isn't , has never been and will never be boring. Simply need to have more of a penalty if an underdogs gameplan is to live by the three as their only way to win. And yes, it wouldn't hurt to see a few people come out with bloody noses like back in the old days.
That would be like taking the Drive from golf. I enjoy the three's and a defence can defend against them. For some reason some teams just give players free shots outside of the Key.
So penalize a team that shoots well from distance? I like this idea. Since we're on this topic, I hate that NFL teams throw the ball deep. We need a way to penalize teams with fast receivers, or QBs with good arms. Its not fair if a team's winning game plan includes the deep ball. Running plays and short passes...thats real football.
Hey I just thought of another one. We need a way to penalize teams with height. Its not fair if they just throw it inside and take advantage of their team's strength. I also don't like if a team uses its quickness to get the basket. To summarize, we don't like outside shooting or easy baskets. Lets say the only baskets that count must be set shots from 10'-15'? I like where this is going. Feel the excitement!
How about playing some perimeter defense? If a team is killing you from the outside, get in thier face.
Never said dont' shoot out there. Just make it a shot that my 13 year old doesn't have a problem making. A team gets killed on the offensive and defensive boards, in transition, cant stop a nosebleed on defense, allows penetration at will all night, and wins because they chuck 36 three pointers and got hot? So you're ok with getting beat in every facet of basketball and winning? Maybe they should just wheel the little carts out there and have 3 point shooting competitions. What does the other stuff matter? I read somewhere I think that you were some kind of basketball guy? Can you honestly tell me Duke had any business winning that game? Seriously?
Scoreboard. Thats all that matters at the end. You do realize that teams can get dominated in some aspects of a game, and still win? You are familiar with this thing called "sports", correct? UNC played terrible perimeter defense. That was Duke's one advantage they had, and they exploited it. You put your strengths (outside shooting) against a teams weakness (perimeter defense). Its called good coaching. C'mon NYB, you're better than that.
There! You made me do it! You went and made me use the blue font. Some aspects yes. One aspect to determine a game no. That's my point. Duke got outplayed in EVERY aspect except one. I'm not saying take the thing away. But it's intended purpose was to award an extra point for a long outside/difficult shot. I don't think that's the case these days. It's not a difficult or long shot anymore.
Then why aren't lesser teams beating NC like that all the time? Using the logic you presented, NC could dominate in all aspects of the game but 3 point defense and get beaten often, just like duke beat them.
Actually I like this analogy. So you're ok with the direction the NFL is heading? At this rate in a few years the QB will be back there with the don't hit me red jersey on. 5,000 yards passing seems routine these days. That's what football is all about.
Damn blue font! Except for the most important one...the score. You are complaining because a team used its greatest strength to get a win. You're not making any sense man. Stop being old. Stop being a homer.
Yes they could. If they get hot and make a bunch, they will and can. And not just against Carolina. It happens a lot. And you'll see it a ton in the NCAA. If you know you're getting killed or going to get killed you resort to the "I hope we make our 3's".
Are you trying to tell me that a team that shoots well from the field has a good chance of winning? Who knew? I love how you think the game plan is to "hope we make 3's". Thats good stuff man. Its kind of like a football team being behind late in a game. They throw the ball and "hope they make completions". Its always hope...never talent.
I don't know of a single person that likes the "new" NFL rules especially pertaining to the QBand hitting on defense in general. As far as actual football fans anyway. Yes it does look pretty on TV and make for good viewing. But as far as the game and the way it was meant to be played? Don't know a single person that says "yeah this is awesome"
