I got these pictures of a 3 legged buck. My buddies and I are discussing rather it was shot off or born that way. Anyone have any thoughts to add?

It is amazing some of things we captured on trail cameras sometime.

I would vote that he was not born that way
to many predators in the woods for a brand new
fawn to make it with 3 legs. imo

A few years back I got this doe with 3 legs on my trailcam. This particular one I believe was either a deer/car collision or some gun hunter with bad aim.

He could have been born that way, although the odds were certainly stacked against him as a little one. Had he been injured, the left side of his rack would be abnormal in some way. It just looks really clean to me.

+1, that's so clean, it almost looks like a surgeon did it. He's a unique trophy, that I'd have a hard time shooting because he's already been through a lot, and I'd almost feel he deserves to live, catch him a couple years from now though when he looks like he's starting to fail, I'd not hesitate.

I killed a button buck a couple years ago that had a bad shoulder/leg because I'd also killed a coyote from the same stand just two weeks before. He was an odd one, weighed about 150# (I think he was a 1.5yr old deer with REALLY bad genes, as he was only a nubbed button), and he was missing an entire muscle group from his left shoulder. Odd things out there sometimes....

I agree with cody, it's way to clean for any type of car accident, hunter's bad aim or other predator. Cody also made a good point about the left side of his rack would have shown some signs of defects if it were caused after birth.

I def think he was born that way, there no indication of injury to cause that. Almost every buck ive seen with an injury from nature has affected opp. side. Although i do have a nice buck pushing 160 that for the last 3 years his leg has been broken and its never affected growth on the opp side. Pics under the Pinnacle thread

I think he was born that way like everyone else said way to clean to be an injury.
Maybe he has a twin with 5 legs haha

    Very interesting!

It does look clean. Whitetails like this one are excellent examples of how amazing these animals truly are.

I can't figure out how the little guy would even get up as a new born fawn. My vote is still
Global Warming or some sort of accident hunter caused or other. I am no Marlin Perkins though.
