My son got a new 3-d bow that I found used for 145 bucks that was identical to his hunting bow so I decided to set it up as a target specific bow with a slide bar sight and target arrows. The arrows were sold to me by a national level IV coach that had set these up for his daughter several years earlier and she set a world record with them. They were ACC 3-00 and complete arrow weight was 192 grains.:DOut of my sons Rinny at 38# he is getting 222 fps.Not bad for a 23" draw length.:p he also made him some nice bright strings and cables fairly cheap.I called another buddy and he let him use a Toxonic slidebar and I put a QAD on it for him.Well,to say he likes it would be an understatement. He practiced in the garage and set a mark for 6 yards.I setup a sight tape and went into the yard to check his marks and his 6 yard mark was accurate enough to have the 60 yard mark on the tape accurate, where he put a single arrow dead center of where he was aiming.:D We shot in extreme cold (21 on the trip to the range) and I didn't expect much but boy was I wrong. He and I both started out strong with mostly 11's between us untill I shot from the wrong stake and hit a twig and blanked a target. Then My focus was on him.He was 8 up through the first 12 targets and maintained and even added to that untill after 20 targets. He ended up shooting 14 11 rings but got tired the last 8 or so and shot 2 5's and a couple 8's to finish with a score of 294.I am extremely proud of him for shooting this well, especially for him being only 11. Here are some pics of him practicing. looking for a spot to aim at. getting behind his shot the bow
Congrats Todd, that's an AWESOME set-up for the young fella, and it sounds like he's an awesome shooter. I can't imagine how proud I'll be someday when one of mine is big enough/old enough to shoot with me and beats me. Then again beating me ain't gonna be too difficult, however beating you IS!!!
It is a great feeling and to be honest, beating me wasn't that hard this day.I was off my game.I only shot a 276 but did have the stupid blank and a 5.I did manage (11) 11 rings. BUT,he beat about 90% of the field, not just me.:D
Todd when you texted me the other day, I was happy to hear this. We all need to try to get together this year. Sign him up for the Metropolis ASA, and I'm being serious. He could tear it up.
Unfortunately, his baseball schedule will most likely prevent this from happening. But I would like to.
He shot a 294 for a final and his yardage was pretty short, mostly around 10 -15 yards but he did have a few shots out to 25 yards. He shot this same course 2 weeks earlier but used his hunting setup that only shot his hunting arrow 170 fps and shot a 255.He shot out the top on many targets because he didn't have a pin.The slider was a big advantage for him because he was able to dial in the exact setting.I also made him do all that himself. His yardage and his sight setting. I wish I would have taken a picture of the shot off a bluff. It was a minny cliff and they set a mountain lion at the bottom and it was a tremendous angle.I let him shoot it from my stake which needed to be shot for 25 yards.I pinwheeled it and since I was lettting him do this one for fun,I told him to set the sight at 25 and shoot it.He pulled back straight out, bent at the waist and nailed the 10 ring.We then walked down and around to the bottom,he dialed in his yardage and nailed the 11.:DPerfect huntin shot and he passed with flying colors. Thanks guys.
:D He is putting the hammer on the ole man :D Todd, your son looks like my 10 year olds twin his mouth even dropped open when I showed him this
Yea,he put it to me.He usually can take me in basketball too. We will have to try and get them together this year at a shoot or something.
Todd that is so cool!!!! When WB was going to get beat by his grandson, he pushed him on the last shot, LOL True Story. WB bought a new bow, he bought a PSE bowmadness 28'' ATA
It's so "weird" to see someone at this age with such great looking form. He's lucky to have a good teacher at such a young age. Keep up the good work!
Germ,I can see that out of WB :D I bet watching WB shoot a 28" bow is like watching a monkey hump a football. Finch, his form is pretty solid for an 11 year old but he does have some flaws that he/we are working through. You should have seen the looks today at the range when he started shooting.Teenagers and young adults came over to watch and the kids on the line just couldn't quit looking at him. I bumped his draw length up to 24" today(he needs 23 1/2 but his bow doesn't go in 1/2" increments) and his bow was shooting 234 through the Easton chrony.
VERY happy for ya, pal! That's some awesome stuff! The older my boy gets these days the cooler it just keeps getting... Thought of you a while back when my boy became the Missouri State 6-and-under karate champion... I know yours are into it big-time, too. Tell him I'm proud of him and to keep up the good work!
My son got his black belt when he was 7,almost 8 but in the last couple years,he has been too busy with other things to go to TKD. Congrats to your son
