A HECK of a good time! Well I went to hunt with my buddy this morning. He lives about 50 miles away, so I left at 4am and arrived. I set up in the dark and had a doe come feed within 12 yards of my stand for 30 minutes after sun-up. I didn't even take my bow off the hanger. Well after 3 more hours and no deer I decided to head home to get ready for Thanksgiving.

So I walk to my buddy's house through the woods and when I come out he says, "hey, there are 2 does in the middle of that grass field". I told him I didn't shoot the doe this morning, but dang I don't get to stalk hunt deer that often....so I told him I am going to somehow stalk to the middle of that grass field and kill one of those doe with my bow. He said, "yeah right".

He walked back inside his house to hang it up for the day hunting wise. I then proceeded to stalk the 200 yards and got within 30 yards of the doe. I couldn't go much further based on the winds. There were no trees, nothing to hide behind, only grass, and most of it was only 6-8 inches high. I waited for her to turn slightly quartering away and settled my 20 yard pin behind her front shoulder....Shot 1=miss by 3 inches low! Dang! She runs and turns looking back over her shoulder. I put another arrow on and shoot again, thinking she was 25 yards away...wrong. She was 30-32. Missed low 3 inches again! Dang! She snorted and ran over the hill. I reloaded with my last arrow and quickly moved 10 yards forward. She stopped and looked, turned quartering away and I launched my last arrow. She dropped on the spot and stopped moving with 15 seconds. The arrow hit perfect! She is the 3rd doe I have killed from the ground, but this one was special to me.

    BOOM!

What a year for me. I conveniently forgot to add to the story that the doe was ummmmmmm, one of the smallest ummmm, does I have ever killed, if not ever. :) But buddy, it was fun!

I agree 130. By about 10am this morning I became extremely bored while sitting at 20 feet high. When I saw the chance for the adventure, I took it. The kids and I just finished eating the backstraps and part of the rump! I am a satisfied customer of the deer woods today.

Thanks guys. It WAS a lot of fun. It was weird almost. I was trying to cover ground as the wind blew and the doe was looking away. Then I would stop and crouch as the wind died, so as to not make any discernible noise. Then I would repeat. I actually stood up and drew for my first shot, but I was at like 40 yards! Too long for me. I thought I had blown my chance, but I just let down and crouched again until the doe was preoccupied. What fun.

I sure as heck did not. The grass was 6-8 inches high and I was shooting from the ground, which means the arrows planed more horizontally....they buried themselves into the wet grass/mud with ease. I lost about $30 worth of arrows and broadheads. I don't like it, but I chalk it up to the costs of learning. So.....

I don't care. Man law is man law :D

haha, I know how you feel. I shot a small one the other night with my rifle and my brother picked it up and threw it over his shoulders and carried it out for me (I'm still getting over knee surgery)
