Great deer rizzo! I ended up getting a 140-150s 10 pointer with my shotgun and a big doe. I'll post pictures later. Unfortunately that means the hunting on my private land is done. Getting a bonus deer just got a lot tougher.
I have studied trail cam pics and times, looked at topos, looked at weather patterns, looked and moon phases and everything else in the morning and then said screw it and I'm going with my gut and hunting the stand I want to... lol Maybe it will work out for me.
Good luck Brad. I have too many options and do the same thing. I always have a good feeling about a different stand. Lol. Anyway I'll be out tomorrow morning. In CT it's gunna be windy 15mph +. If the weather was better I'd hit a spot in ma. The ct spot is a lot easier and I don't really expect to see anything. Deer around here tend to bed down on these windy days. But it is the rut so who knows!
Passed 3 does this AM. Got down and jumped 1 buck and the three does all bedded down. He must have bedded down early. I did hear some commotion before sunrise. Either way I never knew they bedded down where they were and I scouted it out and it heavily used. Good to know!
I know I am a little behind on this post, but great hunt on your buck Afflicted! You also did a great job on the video footage and the video production. Wow. Bummer you did not find him immediately, but you did everything you could. Great work teammate
From dawn til dusk, saw 11 deer all together. Let a 6 point and 5 does walk, my 8 point was at 47 yards and I just couldn't pull the trigger and had a big deer come in right at dark but couldn't tell what he was. Ohh well, good day in the stand, might try it again in the morning.
First shotgun was rough in Illinois this year. Steady 20+mph winds with 30-40mph gusts had them laying low the first day and a half. I knew the wind was dying down for the Saturday evening hunt so I chose a stand that the northwest wind would conceal my entrance and about 20 minutes before dark this guy stood up out of the little blue stem about 90 yards to the north of me. Not a deer I was looking for but he was limping and the last thing a great buck like this needed to do was give me an excuse to shoot him lol I honestly have come to believe he may have just been stiff from laying tight all day because he seemed to be uninjured upon recovering him. What a great deer and he will look great on the wall!!!! Made a great shot and he ran about 80 yards downhill and piled up. I have all the meat I need now as I also shot a doe, but my mother and grandfather would both like a deer so me and a friend will be going on a few public land adventures with our bows. Hopefully I'll be able to fill their freezers as well because I still have 3 tags burning a whole in my wallet. Its been a great season already for me so anything else at this point would be a bonus. I am mostly hoping that I can get my friend on a buck as he just started bowhunting last year and has yet to land one. Good luck everyone on their coming hunts!!!
Great buck and story BH4B!! Congrats! I'd like to go out Thanksgiving morning. I have one more archery tag. The moon is supposed to be directly overhead in the morning the next couple days. Should keep the deer on their feet a little longer. Not to mention the cooler temps! Good luck boys...
its 43 degrees in ringgold according to the weather channel, thats not even cold! You southern boys sure don't like cold!
It was 30 degrees with a wind chill of 22 in the stand this morning . I admit I'm a wimp but that's cold when you're used to 70 recently lol
