Finally got it done after 26 days of hunting this season. 15 days were in a row. Long story short, had a smaller odd rack busted up 8 point come out and hang around for about 10 minutes. He kept looking back in the direction he came out of the brush. After about 3-4 times, another buck, this buck, came out on the same exact trail. They stared at each other for maybe a minute or two and then the smaller, younger deer laid his ears back and started walking towards the other buck. He, in turn, was up for the challenge and instantly laid his ears back and bristled up and started that familiar sideways walk which brought him to 15 yards in front of me. The other buck did give him some room but by that time my arrow was already in the air. Perfect double lung slightly quarter away shot. He ran maybe 80 yards at best. It felt so good to finally get a deer down with my bow after 2 years.

    Great buck! And cool encounter.

Are you from Iowa? Or traveling there to hunt? 15 days to just hunt is a dream for me , haha.

Congrats on filling your tag. The photographer should be next on the list if permissible in Iowa.

From what I've seen so far, that's one of the highest scoring bucks taken. Again, congrats!

Well, I do live here now. Moved here in 2011 from Pa. I actually had 3 weeks off but did take 2 days off during that time.

I agree. We did go out for youth season but the bucks just wouldn't hold still long enough for him to get comfortable to take a shot. Every time I'd get the gun lined up on one, here came another buck to spar with it or stand in front or behind it. Hopefully we can get it done when firearm season starts here next month.
