Here is the list of the Executive Orders planned to be signed. Honestly, they don't seem that bad to me. Looks like there are the proper checks and balances in place to keep Obama from going after everything. http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/obamas-23-planned-executive-actions-on-guns 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. 3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. 4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks. 5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun. 6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers. 7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign. 8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission). 9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. 10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement. 11. Nominate an ATF director. 12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations. 13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. 14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. 15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies. 16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes. 17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities. 18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. 19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.[/I] 20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover. 21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges. 22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations. 23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.
I actually was pleased as well. I was expecting much worse. However we have a huge battle on our hands from this point forward. Hopefully our politicians representing us, make the right decisions and no absurd laws come into play.
I would agree with this and add if folks get gov. Insurance is it giving them the right to ask if you have guns in your home.
If my doctor asks me if I have guns in my house I’ll tell him it is none of his damn business. Why is it a “health risk” that justifies insurance premium adjustments based on if there are guns in the house?

I work for one of the largest healthcare providers in St. Louis. I have to take a health risk assessment every year in which the ask me questions about my lifestyle. It doesn't directly effect my insurance but effects the stuff the recomend for me...
"4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks." This one seems very vague, and dangerous to me. It sounds like they want to be able to look at a category of people, and decide if they should be allowed to have a gun. They already categorize returning veterans as potential terror threats. Would they determine this group of people to be unfit for gun ownership? Allowing the Attorney General to classify who can and cannot own a gun seems unconstitutional to me.
NRA response Fairfax, Va. – Throughout its history, the National Rifle Association has led efforts to promote safety and responsible gun ownership. Keeping our children and society safe remains our top priority. The NRA will continue to focus on keeping our children safe and securing our schools, fixing our broken mental health system, and prosecuting violent criminals to the fullest extent of the law. We look forward to working with Congress on a bi-partisan basis to find real solutions to protecting America’s most valuable asset – our children. Attacking firearms and ignoring children is not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation. Only honest, law-abiding gun owners will be affected and our children will remain vulnerable to the inevitability of more tragedy.
I agree with almost everything on the list, #16 is questionable. I will say this is all he has the power to do without the act of congress. Anything more and he could be impeached. It isn't over by a long shot. My prediction is high capacity mags will be banned which will do nothing more then give anti-gun fanatics a warm fuzzy feeling. A ban on "assault weapons" might happen if the media has their way! A gun with a high capacity magazine classifiy a gun as a "assault weapon". IMO that's how it should be as the color, adjustable butt stock, pistol grip stocks, flash suppersors, etc... do not make the plattform anymore deadly. The previous ban on high capacity magazines no way effected their availability other than price. Additonally there are millions of these high capacity magazines in circulation. Magpul (manufacturers the popular PMAG) claims they have over a million magazines on backorder due to this assault weapon / high capacity magazine ban scare. So my questions is what would a new high capicity ban be? Or how effective for that matter. Does it mean all existing magazine will be grandfathered as before? If so the ban does nothing! Or does this mean that the American people will have to turn in their high capacity magazines? If so, only lawfully abbidding citizens may comply. Criminals DO NOT follow these laws. So my point is... It's a lose - lose situation. Again, criminals do not comply with laws... That’s why they are criminals.
Here comes the push for background checks and gun show bans. Amazing timing on when stuff gets released Despite a federal law that prohibits convicted felons from buying firearms, Schmidt was still able to acquire his stockpile – though authorities don’t yet know how he acquired them. Federal agents have been trying for weeks to trace the weapons, but officials said they have so far made little progress. This could indicate that Schmidt purchased his weapons from private dealers or gun shows, where background checks are currently not required, one official said. But he also could have obtained them on the black market. http://openchannel.nbcnews.com/_new...ite-supremacist-a-felon-obtained-arsenal?lite
