on another note I did find several new scrapes over the weekend although the bucks don't really seem to be getting very aggressive yet...... Things should really start getting good in the next 10 days or so

Taking off work tomorrow to sit in the tree. Rain is suppose to quit at daybreak which will be perfect. Strong west winds and highs in the low 50s. Haven't been out in a couple weeks so it should be good.

With this warm fall, you need to take advantage of every cold front you get.

I got out finally for a sit last night, but didn't see a deer. Someone on the next property over, about 100 yards away shot at something. I about fell out of the stand! It was so loud, that got the heart racing

Startles ya doesn't it. It's when I hear 2 or 3 shots real quick that I get real excited...

I'm taking Thursday off. Supposed to rain Friday and Saturday (my days off) but if it lets up I'll be in a tree. Taking the 4-7th too.

I’m not here to complain, which I have wanted to do for the past few weeks. Hunting has been frustrating. Soooo….onto the good. I am going to the WMA and do some ground hunting this afternoon, from what I hear, the deer are plentiful in the area I am going.
Positive thoughts…I WILL kill a deer tonight, maybe two if the shots present themselves. We have had rain since this past Saturday and it just now quit. The pace I am going is all corn and is surrounded by duck blinds; the corn is not cut. Rumor has it that there is not many people in their during bow season.

Just keep after it! It will happen in a matter of seconds. The new area sounds promising, It sounds like it would be worth a sit or two. My biggest buck I shot on a cattail marsh on the opening day of duck season, With all the duck hunters in the marsh, it got the deer moving. I had 5 bucks and 6 doe come by all in about 15 minutes.

Well I finish a long project in the northeast this week and was (till last night) supposed to be on another through the EOY (also in the greater NYC area)...but looks like I may now (hopefully) be able to get some more time in the woods besides just Saturdays...just in time too.

Man I have the luck. Hung a new stand last week and had a morning sit today for the first time. I had decided to sit in that stand until 10am then move to my other stand. I have seen many deer on full moon nights between 10 am and 2 pm and kind of like hunting during that time of day if the temps are cool. The second stand seems to be more of a travel route for seeking bucks so I thought it would be good mid-day. At 9:58 am I sent a text to my buddy to let him know I was changing stands. I hadn't seen anything and he responded saying he just saw a 6pt for the first deer of the day. I lowered my backpack to the ground and tied my bow on the line to let it down. It was three feet below me and I thought, "I'd better take one last look around first". I turned around and there were two big bucks on the trail in front of my stand at 20 yards. They were making their way to my left. I pulled the bow back up and knocked an arrow but my bow rope was still attached to my bow above the cam. I was trying to draw my bow and to see if the rope would get caught in the cam and while doing that the trailing buck looked up. I froze and he went back to feeding while slowly walking. I couldn't get the knot untied from the bow line so I slid it above the vibration rubber so I could shoot. I then went to draw my bow...and couldn't do it! I've heard of this happening to others but it has never happened to me. There I was trying to draw while the two deer slowly walked behind a bush. I was incredulous! At the last second the trailing buck looked up again and decided he didn't like something. He bounded past the lead buck and then turned off the trail and into the woods. About that time the other buck took a left hand turn which was going to put him to my left and in range. Unfortunately, it also took him down wind. As I was about to try again to draw the bow, the buck lifted his head, took a whiff and followed his buddy. I wanted to throw up. Saw a doe and two button bucks 5 minutes later and my buddy saw a doe. All the deer we saw were between 9:55 am and 11:30 and then it warmed up. I'm sure if it had been cooler we would have seen more movement. Can't understand why to mature bucks were traveling together. Scrapes are everywhere.

I got sick just reading that Jerry. Sorry it went down like that man. On a positive note, they will more than likely forget about this as their minds become taken over during the rut. If that were my stand, I wouldn't be afraid to hunt it the next time you get the right wind.

Frustrations all around...I hunted a blind I set up a couple weeks ago and had a 1 doe mulling around about 70 yards. Checked the camera that sat right next to the blind, adjecent to my food plot, and found the land owner cruising through on his side by side with some random person and a pile of turnips picked from my plot again. Wanted to puke. I stopped up to his shop and had a beer with him afterwards and I mentioned it to him without accusing our showing frustration. He just chuckled and said there are plenty down there and a lot of people like eating them. WTF. A little backside to the situation: the farmer boards horses for a bunch of cowboys around my hick town and I reupholstered a boat for him this spring for free, only thing was that I wanted rights to be able to hunt his ground. So he agreed and even supplied the tractor so I could plant the plot. My opinion is that I need to be more blunt about what he is doing and how its affecting my efforts to tag a deer. What are your guys' thoughts? Should I tell/ask him to stop going down there? I don't want to be forceful about what he can and can't do on his own property. I did tell him that I would gladly plant some turnips somewhere else so they could pick as many as they wanted next year.

I see nothing good coming from confrontation with the property owner. My opinion - bite your tongue this year. I'd chide him about it if I had a real good relationship with him...but that's about it.

Maybe plant something he doesn't like next year.

IF you're seeing pattern changes from him around the plot you may want to reconsider where you're setup.

I agree with what Bill said above, it's easy for him just to kick you out unless you have a long relationship with him and feel comfortable confronting him.
