96 degrees here today. Can't wait for cooler temps. I bought a boat in July and put it in the lake for the first time today. The lake was flooded so badly from early summer rains that the ramps were under water until a couple of weeks ago. I'm always torn between whacking stripers and whacking deer. November never finds me on the water but that is some of the most awesome fishing of the year. I'm ready to see the points start climbing for our team. :D
One of my bucks that I was worried that got hit on the road back up this week. I think he roamed away for a while and came back. All night pictures though. I'm thinking about moving another camera or two into the area to see if I can spot him moving during daylight hours, but I might just have to wait till the rut heats up. Also going to put up a couple mock scrapes in the next couple weeks to see if I can piss him off by thinking another mature buck has moved into the area. He's not the biggest buck I've gotten pictures of, but he is the biggest regular I've got which excites me. 11 MORE DAYS!!!!
That's good news smitty! All that worries for nothing, I bet it feels good that he is back Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That's good to hear Smitty. I want to try doing a mock scrape this year. I listed to a podcast on Wired To Hunt a few weeks ago about that. You guys should check them out if you haven't yet http://wiredtohunt.com/category/podcast-2/
Good News: Still have deer on camera, but I did not see the big fella. Does not mean he has left, the batteries in camera died. I have plenty of pictures of the other two, but only 0400-0500. Plenty of doe and turkey pictures. I decided I did not want to temp myself to walk into the area again so I took the camera out. Climber is in place, gear is sitting in a pelican case with scent wafers, bow sights are tuned to broad heads. Five more days.
Had this buck show up last week. Most of the deer im seeing this year are 125-135" bucks, I'll be taking the first one to present a shot. Season starts Saturday, but it's going to be warm; might try a morning sit but I won't go much until it starts to cool off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm excited for you guys with seasons about to open and deer on trail cams. I hunt public land in Oklahoma and it opens on 10/1 but I won't likely hunt until the middle of the month. Kill some deer fellas and lets see those pics when you do! :D
Oct 1st is finally in the 10 day forecast. Time to start planning where to sit. Looking like a SSW wind as of right now...hmmmmmmm...let me pull up my google maps.
I might finally drag my butt out Fri night or Sat AM. Supposed to be a LITTLE cooler lol. Took two of my kids out last Fri evening when we had a cooler day. Saw a doz or so does, but no bucks and nothing in range for my daughter to poke...... Need about a 20deg drop in temps.
IF I can get out of NY on Thursday (Pope visiting) and IF the rain clears out or holds off on Saturday, the temps are looking great (high of 69) and I have 2 sights that should fit with a NNE wind...hopeful.
Got my bow chronoed today, 321fps! I was shooting bullet holes at the range! Feels good. Loving this HHA sight. Gonna be heading out 3 times this week and once this weekend! Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
No joke. Supposed to be 90 here for the next 10 days! Going to hike into the area we hunt on public land in Oklahoma this Friday to take a peek at things. Mista, what is the average distance you anticipate shooting?
Depends on where I am hunting, and what stand/blind I'm in, or if I'm doing spot and stalk. If I'm in the northern GA mountains, I'll shoot out to 60 yards. If I'm in the stand, the furthest shot I can get in 2 of my stands is about 50 yards, and on the large field it's about 60 yards. So I'd say 60 yards max.
