Finally got around to washing my early season gear. Redid my tree stand straps with new shrink. Going to leave climber outside and let the weather put it’s stank on it. Shot a little bit last night, hitting about 3 inches low @ 20, still think I need to let the strings break in a little more before I start moving pins. Going to check cameras again tomorrow evening, and may even go walk the bean field to see what’s going on over there. 25 more days, I am so excited to get in the stand.
Good luck this weekend! I just started getting the itch today, starting to get excited! I still have a week and half til MD opener Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Good luck Soggy. Fwiw-I try to set an annual mental count down. 2 weeks before wash clothes & start checking weather. 1 week before permethrin and take inventory of any last minute needs (e.g. thermal refills, recheck gear, licenses, etc) in the event I need to run to the store/order something...Night before have everything packed or laid out ready to throw in the vehicle.
Just checked camera, and the 10 pt has been all over it! Day and night, multiple times ever day. Now I hope he keeps this up for 1 more week, season starts next friday! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That's awesome Holt! With season opener right around the corner I'd say you're staged for a great first day! Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
OK, clothes sprayed with permethrin, license...a bit of practice from the stands and pack the bag are all that remains for this week...other than waiting 6.5 long days...
I'm feeling pretty bummed out this morning. Went to check one of my cams yesterday and one of the bucks I'm after had been showing up almost every day since July until August 31 at 12:30am. Didn't think much of it until I talked to my uncle who said a nice buck had gotten hit August 31 at 6am right where I have been getting pictures of him. Here's the last picture I have of him. Hopefully it was one of the younger bucks I have been getting pictures of but it seems like a pretty big coincidence.
That sucks if it is that buck, hope you get some pics of him soon. If not maybe another big buck will move into his area. You never know! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Walked each area pretty well yesterday. Nothing good on the cameras yet, still the same 3 deer I've been seeing. It is supposed to start cooling down a little, maybe that will help get the deer moving. I did find some poo, it's about the only sign of a buck that I've seen on this property. At the bean field I found what appears to be a scrape and licking branch. It has been so dry lately that its hard to really track any hoof prints.I put a camera and a little trophy rock out nearby to whats just whats going on.
Ya my buddy that was with me got an offer on a new job last Friday so he has to fly out of Wichita tomorrow. Had to come back a bit earlier than we wanted. We may head back west for the last week in Sept. Should have bought my CO bear tag. Saw three lol we originally were gonna bounce down to NM if we could punch and elk tag with time to spare. Now we just wanna go back for elk.
I was in the back of my house sharpening my broadheads this weekend and just couldn't resist taking this pic... (The astute will notice the arrow is not on my bow)...
"Liberal citiots". When one of the Council members was asked about bowhunting the answer was something like 'there is no place safe in the county. Lalalalala' I've 'discussed' with the city/count biologist, since there are parks in the county that have permit hunts using black powder or shotgun and now uncontrolled yote populations in the city, and drew my own conclusion...I can't/won't share my opinion on a public forum...but I think it's probably pretty obvious.
Dang Smitty hopefully that's not the buck that got hit. I'm back from the Kentucky bow opener. WAY to hot! Didn't see much. It was nice to get back in the treestand however.
Tomorrow is the day! I will be in the stand this time tomorrow. A nice cold front came in today and it's raining on and off all day, then tomorrow its going to be 10 degrees colder and overcast all day. This is going to be good! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Good luck! Hopefully they are bedding today and up browsing tomorrow. Our opener is Saturday...weather is currently predicted to be warm (80s) and thunderstorms...
