Found a few with some of our little future hunting buddy. Still early but some are dropping for sure. Few sheds and a dead. My pup found the dead head and one of the sheds. The one big one my buddy found from a monster buck that ghosted us all season (pic in velvet). At least we know he isnt dead. Also the big wide one (Lt. Dan @Sota named him) made it out alive as well. Hope to find his when he drops em. Anyone else doing any good yet?
Nice finds! No dice for me yet, went on two walks. Waiting till end of month then gonna start hitting the higher percentage spots, I got the itch tho !
I'm going to start shed hunting soon, always found a few by accident but never actually went to look on purpose. Any particular places to search hard? I heard a guy mention to check south-facing slopes...not sure how accurate that is. I just planned on walking trails and looking for crossing points and rubs.
I’m sitting on 16 so far. My buddy I think has 11 and his dad has 1. Haven’t found very many by our food plots but not surprising with how mild it’s been. Found 8 and a dead head last Monday. The one on the far left measured 67” as a main frame 4 point side. Has a cheater off his base. Hopefully I get pictures of him next year! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bedding to food travel, south facing areas. Been a mild winter in most places and makes for more spread out sheds since there not all forced to the food. Keep sun at back and overcast days with moisture on ground are best, makes them pop out.
Wife and I walked a few miles today around the lease and drum roll please…..nothing. I noticed a big ten dropped one side a few days ago so I thought we would give it a shot but most are still holding. I’ll try again over the weekend if the weather is decent. If nothing else I’ll get some mineral blocks out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just saw a great buck by my house holding both sides, cameras showing 80/20 holding too. Hard to stay inside with the nicer weather and I hate yard work haha.
Just got pics last night with a whole group of bucks still holding. Going to wait another week to start
Just had two bucks the other night still rocking their racks walking through the pasture. What is a trigger for them to start dropping? Habitat? Weather?
Stress, weather, food, injury. They cast when their testosterone levels drop. https://www.bowhunting.com/article/what-factors-effect-antler-casting/
