Oh, I always make sure my hunting clothes are clean. I smart enough to know not to go into the woods smelling like 2 day old workout clothes that have been left in a gym bag.

It’s just that I’m beginning to think that removing all scent makes the scent our bodies produce that much more evident.

I used to be positively obsessed with scent control but it seems that the more I made myself, my clothing and my gear scent free the more I got winded.

I told my brother that one of these days I was going to get up, shower with Old Spice body wash, use my wife’s flowery smelling shampoo, put on Old Spice deodorant, splash on some Polo aftershave and go climb a tree.

Heck, it might actually help by providing cover scent.

My arrows shafts showed up today. Will start building them some time this week. Going to keep them just like my last batch. Custom aluminum footer, and 4 fletch with a low profile 3" vane. They just work, so no reason to change on this batch.

If it’s not broke don’t change it!

Awesome to hear your shafts arrived! Your choice of custom aluminum footer and 4 fletch with low profile 3" vanes sounds solid! Have you thought about experimenting with different fletching configurations, to se,e how they affect arrow flight? Good luck with the build, and may your arrows fly true!

It allows small game and migratory birds as well if you have the federal and state stamps, plus two turkey tags, but there is only a spring season, not a fall season. But yeah, it has gotten pricey for Arkansas.

That may be the case for residents, but my $410 plus tax only got me the annual hunting license (small game) and six deer tags.

If I hunted migratory birds or turkey, which I don’t, I’d have had to add them.

The duck stamp I saw was $30 and the non-resident turkey tag was $325.

I missed that separation. Must be new for this year. I can't blame them. $325 for a turkey tag is ridiculous anywhere, especially when Arkansas is not a great turkey state.

I made it out to the lease today and swapped out some batteries. Left one camera lying at the base of a tree. Seems some wasps were rather fond of it. I wasn’t going to stay and discuss the issue. I’ll grab it next time when things have settled down a bit. I came to the realization that cellular cameras have ruined me. I use to run twenty regular cameras now I can barely muster the energy to put one out.

Loggers have a bunch of trees marked. I’m not sure when their going to start cutting but I’m hoping I can get it done early this year.

Bought my NY and OH DMP/tags. It won’t be long.

Hey LC what part of Arkansas are you planning to hunt, just out of curiosity. I grew up in NWA but currently reside in southern NM, man am I homesick. I usually spent this time of year cutting shooting lanes and fighting seed ticks, hated clorox baths. I concentrated on river bottoms, lots of mosquitoes, cottonmouth and big deer. Good luck and don’t forget to drop a sample of your harvest off to game and fish to check for cwd

I recently moved in to a new home, so I've barely had time to prep anything so far. I cleared about half an acre for food plot ground and ended up throwing out some oats that are up. This is all new ground, hilly and mature hardwoods. Deer have no real great food source, just woody browse and acorns when those drop, so I'm hoping this is a good draw for them. I'll put some greens and brassica in once Sept rolls around, if I can manage to knock out the rest of my very long honey do list around the house. There are no food sources within miles of me. Hopefully I can draw em in.

About the only place I hunt in Arkansas is Wattensaw WMA. Well, the actual name now is Mike Freeze Wattensaw.

It’s about a half hour east of Little Rock. It borders the White River, it’s flat, full of ticks, chiggers, copperheads and rattlesnakes but it’s also full of deer.

It’s not pretty hill country like NW Arkansas at all.

Make sure to inspect your climbing sticks before going up!! Could have had a close call yesterday while setting up a new stand with my old trusty, turns out they were rusty, climbing sticks. Inside part of the square tube had rotted and made it three sections up when one gave way. Picking up a new set today, others are going in the trash.

I had a hang on up a few years back and went to go take it down, stood out in it to get my bow hanger down and the cables broke! Glad I had my lifeline up and harness on. I made a diamond hahaha. Good reminder, check your gear and wear a harness !!

Shot broadheads out to 60 yds today. Hitting right with field tips. Food is ordered. Will be going stoveless this year to save weight because I have to carry so much water. Also I won’t bring a tent just a bivy. Once I get that I will pack the ruck. 3 weeks to elk opener

With temps in the low 70s today, finally decided to get some kill plots in(rape, brassica, turnips, radishes) and stand hung.

Shot Exodus BH, bare shaft and FP at 30yds to check my tune. I tweaked a few things this am, all is well. Had to bump sight a bit to move right. I’m definitely rusty tho, shot around 100 arrows today. Liked about half of them. Gonna keep shooting.
