Not really smack talk, but something I think of from time to time. Ruark was a city slicker who fell in love with hunting in Africa. The Horn of the Hunter is a good read and this is an excerpt from it.

Gents - I was wanting to join the contest, in fact I did sign up.
I was then laid off in a staff reduction/role elimination at the end of July.
I was able to get a new job and start 1 month to the day after the lay off which was a blessing but with all the responsibilities with my new role, large pay cut, and inability to use PTO until essentially end of November, I withdrew from the contest.

I'll be creeping around watching, and hope to get in a tree some.
I haven't purchased a gun tag in maybe 10 years, but I might this year. If I only get 1 weekend all year I might fall to the orange army.

 

Bummer about the job, hope you can get some meat in the freezer

 

I did not hunt the opener but I put a friend on a pretty good one
